Katherine Langford (born 29 April 1996) is a talented actress from Australia. She became well-known for her role as Hannah Baker in the Netflix TV show 13 Reasons Why (2017–2018). This role even earned her a nomination for a Golden Globe Award. Katherine has also appeared in popular movies like Love, Simon (2018) and Knives Out (2019). She also starred in the movie Spontaneous (2020) and the Netflix series Cursed (2020).

Katherine Langford was born in Perth, Western Australia. She grew up in Applecross, a suburb near Perth. Her mother, Elizabeth, is a children's doctor. Her father, Stephen, is a flying doctor. Katherine's younger sister, Josephine Langford, is also an actress.
Early Interests and Talents
Katherine started taking voice lessons in 2005. She learned different styles of singing, including classical and jazz. She went to Perth Modern School for high school. There, she studied music and drama. She was also a sports captain and a very good swimmer.
At first, Katherine was interested in medicine and politics. But in 2012, she went to a Lady Gaga concert. This show inspired her to learn piano. She even wrote and shared some of her own songs online. One song, "Young and Stupid," was written to help teens who were struggling. In her last year of high school, Katherine focused more on music and acting. She won several awards in music and drama competitions. She graduated in 2013.
Acting Training
From 2014 to 2015, Katherine studied at the Principal Academy of Dance & Theatre Arts. She focused on musical theater. She also took part in a special acting program at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in 2015. She trained at Nicholson's Academy of Screen Acting too. Katherine was offered a spot at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. However, she decided to pursue acting roles right away instead of going to college.
Acting Career
Katherine Langford started her acting career in small independent films. These included Story of Miss Oxygen (2015) and Daughter (2016). Daughter was even shown at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. In 2016, she tried out for a TV series about William Shakespeare but did not get the part.
Breakthrough Role in 13 Reasons Why
Soon after, Katherine was cast as Hannah Baker in the teen drama TV series 13 Reasons Why. She played this main role for the first two seasons. When she got the part, she had only 10 days to get her visa to work in the United States. She did a lot of research for the role. She talked to experts and learned about teen development.
Many critics praised her performance as Hannah Baker. The Hollywood Reporter said her acting was "heartbreaking" and full of "dynamic range." For this role, she received many awards and nominations. This included a nomination for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Television Series Drama. In May 2018, Katherine confirmed she would not return for the third season of the show.
Film Roles and Other Projects
After 13 Reasons Why, Katherine appeared in her first feature film, The Misguided (2018). She also starred as Leah in the popular 2018 movie Love, Simon. In October 2018, she was cast in Avengers: Endgame. However, her scenes were later removed from the final movie.
In 2019, Katherine co-starred in Knives Out, a mystery film. The cast of this movie received great reviews. She was part of several awards and nominations for her role, including a Critics' Choice Award nomination for Best Cast.
In 2020, she starred in the movie Spontaneous. This dark comedy was well-received. She also received a Critics' Choice Super Awards nomination for her performance. In September 2018, it was announced that Katherine would star in the Netflix series Cursed. In this show, she plays Nimue, a teenage girl who is destined to become the Lady of the Lake. The series premiered in July 2020.
In October 2022, it was announced that Katherine would star in a TV series called The ... of Samantha Bird. Production for the series began in January 2023. However, due to a writers' strike, filming stopped in May 2023. In September 2023, the network decided not to continue with the series.
On September 23, 2024, Katherine made her debut on stage. She took over the role of Sally Bowles in the musical Cabaret in London's West End. She is scheduled to perform for 18 weeks.
