Katherine Anne Langford (born 29 April 1996) is an Australian actress. She became well-known for playing Hannah Baker in the Netflix TV show 13 Reasons Why (2017–2018). This role earned her a nomination for a Golden Globe Award. She also appeared in movies like Love, Simon (2018) and Knives Out (2019). Later, she starred in the dark comedy Spontaneous (2020) and the Netflix series Cursed (2020).

Early Life and Education
Katherine Langford was born in Perth, Western Australia. She grew up in Applecross, a suburb near Perth. Her mother, Elizabeth Langford, is a children's doctor. Her father, Stephen Langford, is a flying doctor. Katherine's younger sister, Josephine Langford, is also an actress.
Katherine started taking singing lessons in 2005. She learned different styles of singing, including classical and jazz. For high school, she went to Perth Modern School. There, she focused on music and drama. She was also a sports captain and a good swimmer.
When she was a teenager in 2012, Katherine went to a Lady Gaga concert. This concert inspired her to learn piano. She even shared videos of herself singing three songs she wrote. For her last year of high school, she stopped swimming. She put all her energy into music and performing. She won several music and drama competitions. Katherine graduated from Perth Modern School in 2013.
From 2014 to 2015, Katherine studied Music Theatre at the Principal Academy of Dance & Theatre Arts. She also performed in a play called Godspell. In 2015, she was one of five students chosen for a special acting program. She also trained at Nicholson's Academy of Screen Acting. She played a role in their 2015 show of Evita. Katherine was offered a spot at a famous acting school. But she decided to try for professional acting roles instead.

Katherine Langford started her acting career in small independent films. These included Story of Miss Oxygen (2015) and Daughter (2016). She played the main character in Daughter. This film was shown at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. In 2016, she tried out for a TV show about William Shakespeare but did not get the part.
Her big break came when she was cast as Hannah Baker in the TV series 13 Reasons Why. She played Hannah for the first two seasons. When she got the role, she had only 10 days to get a special visa to work in the United States. Many critics praised her acting in the show. One critic said her performance was "heartbreaking." She received many awards and nominations for this role. This included a nomination for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Television Series Drama. In May 2018, Katherine announced she would not return for the third season of the show.
In 2018, Katherine appeared in her first feature film, The Misguided. She also starred as Leah in the popular movie Love, Simon. In 2018, she was cast in Avengers: Endgame. However, her scenes were removed from the final movie. Test audiences found her scene confusing, so it was cut.
In 2019, Katherine co-starred in Knives Out, a murder mystery film. She was part of a large cast that received great reviews. The cast won and was nominated for several awards, including a Critics' Choice Award nomination.
In 2020, she starred in Spontaneous. This was a dark comedy that also received good reviews. She was nominated for an award for her role in this film. In the same year, she was cast in the web TV series Cursed. In this show, she played Nimue, a teenage girl who becomes the Lady of the Lake. The series premiered on Netflix in July 2020.
In October 2022, it was announced that Katherine would star in a new TV series called The Venery of Samantha Bird. Production for the series started in January 2023. However, filming stopped in May 2023 because of a writers' strike. In September 2023, the network decided not to continue the series. Even though six of the eight episodes were finished, the show was cancelled.
On 23 September 2024, Katherine made her first appearance on stage. She took over the role of Sally Bowles in the musical Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club. She will perform in this West End show for 18 weeks.
