Kay Burley (born 17 December 1960) is a well-known English TV presenter. She works for Sky News, where she hosts the morning show called Kay Burley. She has also worked for other TV and radio stations like BBC Local Radio and Tyne Tees Television.

Early Life

Kay Burley grew up in Wigan, Lancashire, England. Her parents worked in a cardboard factory. She went to Whitley High School.

She started her career in journalism when she was just 17 years old. Her first job was working for a local newspaper, the Wigan Evening Post and Chronicle.

Kay Burley worked for BBC local radio and Tyne Tees Television. In 1985, she joined TV-am as a reporter and sometimes read the news. From 1987, she presented the first hour of TV-am's show. She also filled in for other presenters who were on leave.

In 1988, Kay Burley joined Sky Television. She helped launch the Sky One Entertainment Channel with her own documentary. Soon after, she moved to the new Sky News channel.

Kay Burley has covered many important news events for Sky News. She was part of the team that reported on the sad news of the death of Diana, Princess of Wales in 1997. She was one of the first in the UK to report on the September 11 attacks in 2001.

She also reported live from Sri Lanka after the big tsunami in 2004. In 2005, she covered the general election and the wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles. In 2013, she reported on the birth of Prince George.

In December 2020, Kay Burley was off air for six months. She returned to Sky News on 7 June 2021, saying, "it's great to be back."

Writing

Kay Burley has also written books. Her first novel, First Ladies, was published in May 2011.

Another novel by Kay Burley, called Betrayal, was published in May 2012.

Personal Life

In 2018, Kay Burley took part in Channel 4's Celebrity Hunted.

In an interview in 2019, Kay Burley shared that she enjoys climbing and mountaineering. She is also a Roman Catholic.
