Kay Cannon, born on August 21, 1974, is a talented American writer, producer, director, and actress. She is widely known for writing and producing the popular Pitch Perfect movies, which came out between 2012 and 2017.
In 2018, Kay Cannon also directed her first movie, the comedy Blockers. Before that, she worked as a writer and producer for the TV shows 30 Rock (2007–2012) on NBC and New Girl (2012–2014) on FOX. She also created, wrote, and produced the Netflix show Girlboss in 2017.

Kay Cannon grew up in Custer Park, Illinois. She is one of seven children in her family.
She went to Reed-Custer High School in Braidwood, Illinois. Later, she earned two degrees from Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois. She got a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and a Master of Arts in Education.

She has performed in many comedy shows, including sketch and improv. She worked at theaters like Boom Chicago in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and The Second City in Chicago and Las Vegas. She also performed at ImprovOlympic and The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in Los Angeles and New York City.
Kay Cannon acted in the independent film The Little Tin Man in 2013. She also appeared as a guest star on TV shows like NBC's 30 Rock, New Girl, and Cristela.

While she was performing and writing in Chicago, Kay Cannon met actress Tina Fey. Tina Fey also used to perform at The Second City.
When Tina Fey started creating the NBC comedy show 30 Rock, she invited Kay Cannon to join the writing team. Kay Cannon started as a staff writer and worked her way up to supervising producer.
Kay Cannon won the Writers Guild of America Award three times for her writing on 30 Rock. This award is for the best comedy series. In 2008, she also won a Peabody Award for her work on the show. In 2010, she was nominated for an Emmy Award for her writing in a comedy series. During this time, Kay Cannon also helped produce the movie Baby Mama (2008).
She moved from New York City to Los Angeles after signing a special deal with 20th Century Fox. As part of this deal, she worked as a co-executive producer on New Girl. She was also a consulting producer on Cristela. She sold a comedy show called The Wrecking Crew to Fox and wrote a pilot episode for a show called The Runt for CBS.
Later, she created and produced the show Girlboss for Netflix. This show was based on the real-life story of Sophia Amoruso.
Kay Cannon's first movie script that was made into a film was the a cappella comedy Pitch Perfect in 2012. She also wrote and helped produce the sequels, Pitch Perfect 2 (2015) and Pitch Perfect 3 (2017).
Directing Movies
Kay Cannon directed her first movie, Blockers. Universal Pictures released the film on April 6, 2018.
In 2019, it was announced that Kay Cannon would write and direct a new musical version of Cinderella. This movie was made for Sony Pictures and starred Camila Cabello. James Corden and his company, Fullwell 73, produced the film.
Personal Life
In 2004, Kay Cannon married actor and comedian Jason Sudeikis. They had been together for five years before marrying. They separated in 2008 and later divorced in 2010.
Kay Cannon's second husband is comedy writer Eben Russell. They got married in 2012. They have one daughter, who was born in October 2013.
