Kayla Janine Alexander (born January 5, 1991) is a Canadian professional basketball player. She plays as a centre for Valencia Basket in Spain. She also plays in the EuroLeague, which is a top basketball league in Europe. Before becoming a professional, Kayla played college basketball for the Syracuse Orange team. She was chosen as the eighth player overall in the 2013 WNBA draft by the San Antonio Stars.

College Basketball Journey
Kayla Alexander played college basketball at Syracuse University from 2010 to 2013. She was an amazing player during her time there. She became the school's all-time leader in many important stats. These included points scored (2,024), blocks (350), and baskets made.
Kayla was only the second player from Syracuse to be picked in the WNBA draft. This shows how special her college career was. To honor her achievements, Syracuse University retired her No. 40 jersey on December 8, 2024. This means no other player at Syracuse will wear that number again.
WNBA Career Highlights
Kayla Alexander was drafted into the WNBA in 2013 by the San Antonio Stars. She was the eighth player chosen overall. From her first year, she was a key player for the Stars. She was known for her strong rebounding skills, helping her team get the ball back.
In the 2016 season, Kayla had her best year yet with the Stars. She scored an average of 8.0 points and grabbed 4.5 rebounds per game. In 2017, she signed a new contract to stay with the Stars.
In 2018, Kayla was traded to the Indiana Fever. This was a big change for her career in the WNBA. She continued to play for different teams in the WNBA, including the Chicago Sky in 2019 and the Minnesota Lynx in 2020.
Playing Basketball Overseas
Besides playing in the WNBA, Kayla Alexander has also played basketball in many different countries around the world. This is called playing "overseas."
- In 2015-2016, she played in Russia for a team called WBC Sparta&K.
- In 2016, she signed a short-term deal to play in France for CJM Bourges Basket.
- In early 2020, she joined Arka Gdynia in Poland. However, she had to return to Canada in March of that year. This was because the season was canceled due to the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
- From 2022 to 2024, she played for Tango Bourges Basket in France.
- On May 23, 2024, Kayla signed with Valencia Basket in Spain. She is currently playing for them in the 2024–25 season.
Kayla's Life Off the Court
Kayla Alexander has interests beyond basketball. She has shared that she hopes to become a teacher after she finishes her basketball career.
Kayla also has a brother, Kyle, who is also a professional basketball player. He has played for the Miami Heat in the NBA.
In 2019, Kayla wrote and illustrated a children's book called The Magic of Basketball. Her sister, Kesia, helped her write the book. This shows her creative side and her desire to inspire young people. Kayla is also a devout Christian and often shares about her faith on social media.
