Keithsburg is a small city in Mercer County, Illinois, United States. It is located right on the Mississippi River. In 2020, about 550 people lived there.
The city got its name from Robert Keith, who was an early settler in the area. Keithsburg has a few places for residents and visitors. These include a restaurant called "The Eagles Nest" and a gas station named "Casey's". There are also playgrounds for kids to enjoy.

Where is Keithsburg?
Keithsburg is in the southwestern part of Mercer County. It sits on the east bank of the Mississippi River. A small stream called Pope Creek flows into the river nearby.
The city is about 16 miles (26 km) southwest of Aledo. Aledo is the main town in Mercer County. Keithsburg is also 27 miles (43 km) northwest of Monmouth.
If you want to cross the Mississippi River, the closest bridges are a bit far. One is 26 miles (42 km) south in Burlington, Iowa. Another is 25 miles (40 km) north in Muscatine, Iowa.
The total area of Keithsburg is about 3.18 square miles (8.23 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, but about 19.53% is water.
North of Keithsburg, you'll find a special natural area. It's called the Keithsburg Division of the Mark Twain National Wildlife Refuge Complex. This refuge protects many different kinds of wildlife.

Flooding in Keithsburg
Because Keithsburg is so close to the Mississippi River, it has faced floods. In 1993, a very big flood caused a lot of damage to the town. After the flood, the community worked hard to rebuild.
On June 14, 2008, the town flooded again. This happened when two nearby protective walls, called levees, broke.
