Kemmental is a municipality, which is like a local government area, located in the Kreuzlingen district in the canton of Thurgau, Switzerland.
This municipality was created on January 1, 1996. It was formed by joining several smaller, independent municipalities. These included Alterswilen, Hugelshofen, Altishausen, Dotnacht, Ellighausen, Lippoldswilen, Neuwilen, and Siegershausen.

History of Kemmental
The different parts that make up Kemmental today have a long history. Each of them used to be its own independent municipality. For example, Alterswilen was first mentioned way back in 1248. The small village of Bommen was first written about in 1348.
Altishausen's history goes back to 1159. Ellighausen was first mentioned in 1331. Other villages like Bächi (1259) and Geboltschhusen (1385) are also very old. Lippoldswilen was first mentioned in 1303, and Neuwilen in 1159. Siegershausen dates back to 1227, and Hugelshofen to 1176. Dotnacht is one of the oldest, first mentioned in 824. A village within Dotnacht, Altshof, was even mentioned in 775!
Geography and Landscape
Kemmental covers an area of about 25 square kilometers (about 9.6 square miles). A large part of this land, about 68%, is used for farming. Forests cover about 23% of the area.
About 8% of the land is developed with buildings and roads. A small amount, less than 1%, is covered by rivers or lakes. The beautiful Bommer Weiher lake is located within the municipality.
Kemmental is one of the largest municipalities in the Kreuzlingen district.
Population and People
Kemmental has a population of about 2,203 people (as of December 2007). Most people in Kemmental speak German, which is about 97% of the population.
In 2009, the population included:

- Adults (20-59 years old): 51.3%
- Seniors (60 years and older): 16.2%
Most households in Kemmental are families. About 58% of people live in homes with a couple and children. About 19% are couples without children.
Local Attractions
The small village of Bommen is a special place. It is recognized as part of the Inventory of Swiss Heritage Sites. This means it has important historical and cultural value.

Transportation
Kemmental is connected by the Wil–Kreuzlingen railway line. This line runs between the towns of Weinfelden and Kreuzlingen. You can catch a train at the Siegershausen railway station, which is part of the St. Gallen S-Bahn system.
Education System
Many adults in Kemmental have completed higher education. This means they have gone beyond basic schooling to university or a specialized college.
Kemmental has its own school district, which includes primary and secondary schools. In the 2008/2009 school year, there were 257 students in total.
