What's Inside the Museum?

The museum has amazing collections that tell stories about the local area. You can explore archaeology, which is about old things people used long ago. There's also local history, showing how Kendal has changed over time. You can also learn about geology, which is the study of rocks and how the Earth was formed.

One of the most exciting parts is the natural history collection. This collection has items from all over the world! The museum is famous for its large collection of taxidermy. This is when animals are preserved so they look like they are still alive. A famous taxidermist named Henry Murray did some of this amazing work. You can even see a stuffed polar bear and a model of a dodo bird!

The museum also has special exhibitions that change often. These displays, events, walks, and talks always offer something new to see and learn.

Visiting the Museum

Kendal Museum is open three days a week, from Thursday to Saturday. If you are aged 5 to 18, it costs £2 to get in. Adults pay £5, and children under 5 years old can enter for free! The museum is open from 9:30 AM to 4:45 PM. Make sure you arrive before 4:00 PM, as that's the last time you can enter.

In April 2011, Kendal Museum received a special award from Visit England. This award is called the Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance Scheme assessment. It means the museum offers a really great experience for visitors!
