Kenwood is a lovely neighborhood in Minneapolis, a big city in Minnesota. It sits right next to two beautiful lakes, Lake of the Isles and Cedar Lake. Kenwood is known for its many historic and grand homes. It's one of the wealthiest areas in the city, similar to the nearby Lowry Hill neighborhood.
The most famous feature of Kenwood is its many historic mansions. These large homes are located along the parkways. They offer amazing views of the lakes and the city skyline.

History of Kenwood
This neighborhood started growing in the late 1880s. A train line was built near Cedar Lake, which is to the west of Kenwood. This train line made it much easier for people to travel to and from the area. Because of this, Kenwood became a popular place to live.
Where is Kenwood?
Kenwood has clear boundaries that define its area. To the west, it is bordered by Cedar Lake Parkway. Kenwood Parkway is to the north. West Lake of the Isles Parkway forms its eastern edge. Kenilworth Place is the boundary to the south.
The neighborhood is part of Ward 7 in Minneapolis. A "ward" is like a district, and each ward has a representative. Kenwood's representative is a council member named Katie Cashman.

Kenwood has been home to some interesting people, both real and fictional!
Fictional Residents
- The most famous fictional person to live in Kenwood was Mary Richards. She was played by actress Mary Tyler Moore. Mary Richards lived at a fictional address, "119 North Weatherly." However, the outside shots of her home were actually filmed at a real house. This house is located at 2104 Kenwood Parkway. It was used from 1970 to 1975 for the first five seasons of The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
Real-Life Residents
- Walter Mondale was a very important person. He served as the Vice President of the United States. He lived in Kenwood for many years, near Fremont Avenue.
- Emery Mapes was one of the people who helped start the company that makes Cream of Wheat. He also lived in the Kenwood neighborhood.
