Keri-Anne Payne was born on December 9, 1987. She is a British swimmer who was born in South Africa. Keri-Anne is famous for her amazing skills in open water swimming, which is like a marathon in the water. She also swims long distances in pools. She has won the world championship twice in the 10-kilometre open water race. She also won a silver medal at the Olympic Games.

Keri-Anne Payne's Swimming Journey

Early Life and Training

Keri-Anne Payne was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. Her parents were British. She started swimming when she was just 4 years old. When she was 8, a coach named Bill Sweetenham noticed her talent. This happened at a training camp in South Africa. Because of this, her family moved to the UK when she was 13. They settled in Heywood, Greater Manchester.

Keri-Anne went to Cardinal Langley Roman Catholic High School. She joined the Stockport Metro swimming club. Her coach there was Sean Kelly. In 2002, she broke the British junior record for the 800-metre freestyle. Later, her funding was cut after she did not win a medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Her coach then suggested she try open water swimming. This helped her get more financial support.

Olympic and World Success

At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, Keri-Anne competed in several events. She swam in the 200-metre and 400-metre individual medley races. She also took part in the 10-kilometre open water event. In this race, she won a silver medal, finishing in second place.

In 2009, Keri-Anne competed at the 2009 World Aquatics Championships in Rome. She won the 10-kilometre open water event. Her winning time was two hours, one minute, and 37.1 seconds.

She won the World Championship again in 2011. This was at the 2011 World Aquatics Championships in Shanghai. By winning, she became the first British athlete to qualify for the 2012 Summer Olympics. At the 2012 London Olympics, she finished fourth in the 10-kilometre open water race. She was only four seconds behind the winner.

Later Career and Retirement

Keri-Anne trained at British Swimming's center in Stockport. Later, she moved to Edinburgh. There, she joined the Warrender Baths Club.

In 2014, she won the LEN European Open Water Swimming Cup Super Final. This event took place in Castellabate, Italy. Keri-Anne Payne announced her retirement from competitive swimming in January 2017.

After retiring from swimming, Keri-Anne started a new career. In January 2018, she began co-presenting a TV show. The show is called The Wave and aired on the UKTV channel W.
