Keswick is a suburb in Adelaide, South Australia. It's located in the south-west part of the city, right next to the beautiful park lands. This area is part of the City of West Torrens.

Keswick is home to important places like the Keswick Barracks (a military base), the main office for the Royal District Nursing Service (who help people at home), the Keswick Cricket Club, and Richmond Primary School.

The Adelaide Parklands Terminal, where long-distance trains arrive and depart, used to be part of Keswick. But in 1987, this large train area became its own separate suburb.

History of Keswick

Long ago, the Kaurna people lived in the area that is now Keswick, before European settlers arrived.

A local train station called Keswick railway station opened in 1913. It helped people travel around Adelaide for many years before closing in 2013.

The Keswick Barracks, a military base, was finished in 1913. It was the first big building built by the Australian government in South Australia. It's still there today on Anzac Highway.

In 1915, the Keswick Hospital was built. It was also known as the "Diggers Hospital" and cared for soldiers who were hurt during World War I. Patients were moved from Keswick Hospital in 1946, but a clinic stayed open until 1968.

In 1918, a tram line opened to Keswick. It helped transport injured soldiers to the hospital. The tram line was later changed in 1939.

Keswick Barracks is an Australian Army base. It is home to different army units, including the 9th Brigade (Reserve) and the 10th/27th Battalion, Royal South Australia Regiment. There is also an Air Force unit here.

Royal District Nursing Service

Keswick is also home to the main office of the Royal District Nursing Service. This group helps people get nursing care in their own homes. It is now part of the Silver Chain Group.

Keswick Cricket Club

The Keswick Cricket Club started in 1942. Their main goal was to give anyone who wanted to play cricket a chance to do so.

Today, the club has four teams that play in the Adelaide & Suburban Cricket Association. They also have junior teams for younger players (U10, U12, and U14) and a team in the Adelaide Strikers Girls League.

The main building of Keswick Barracks is a very important historic site. It was added to the Australian Commonwealth Heritage List in 2004.

The original Richmond Primary School building is also considered a local heritage site. It was given this status in 2008 by the City of West Torrens.
