Kevin Burleson, born on April 9, 1979, is an American professional basketball coach. He used to be a professional basketball player. He is currently an assistant coach for the Detroit Pistons in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Kevin played college basketball for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers. He started his professional career in the German basketball league. In 2005–06, he played for the Charlotte Bobcats in the NBA.

Early Life and Family
Kevin Burleson was born in Seattle, Washington. He grew up in a family that loved sports. His father, Al Burleson, played defensive back in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He also played in the United States Football League (USFL).
Kevin has several brothers who also played sports. His older brother, Alvin Jr., played college football. His younger brother, Nate, was a wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL). Another younger brother, Lyndale, played college basketball. Kevin and Nate are one of only two pairs of brothers where one played in the NBA and the other in the NFL.
Kevin played many sports when he was young. He stopped playing baseball because it was too slow for him. He also stopped playing football. He was worried about getting an injury that would stop him from playing basketball.
High School Basketball
Kevin went to O'Dea High School after his first year of high school. He had transferred from Garfield High School. At O'Dea, Kevin earned three letters in basketball. He also earned one letter in track and field. He played basketball under coach Phil Lumpkin. In his junior year, Kevin helped O'Dea have a perfect season. They won all 29 games and took home the state title.
College Career at Minnesota
Kevin was offered a basketball scholarship to the University of Washington. However, he chose to go to the University of Minnesota instead. He wanted the chance to play in the Big Ten Conference. He played for the Minnesota Golden Gophers men's basketball team from 1999 to 2003. He took a year off in the 1998–99 season.
In 2001, Minnesota played in the 2001 National Invitation Tournament (NIT). Kevin scored his season-high of 21 points in Minnesota's win. This win was against Villanova in the first round. As a junior, Kevin was the leader in assists for Minnesota. He had 146 assists that season.
Professional Playing Career
Kevin Burleson started his professional basketball career in Germany. He played for the USC Heidelberg team during the 2003–2004 season. Then, he played for the Walter Tigers Tübingen in the Basketball Bundesliga for the 2004–2005 season.
Playing in the NBA
On August 31, 2005, the Charlotte Bobcats of the NBA signed Kevin. He played with the Bobcats during the 2005–2006 season. After that season, he was released from the team.
In the 2006 NBA Development League draft, Kevin was picked fourth overall. He was chosen by the Fort Worth Flyers. Kevin played for the Flyers during the 2006 season. After that, he signed with a Turkish team. This team was Mersin Büyükşehir Belediye for the 2007–2008 season. In January 2009, he signed with the Idaho Stampede. This team was also in the NBA Development League. Kevin finished his playing career with the Egyptian team Al-Ittihad Alexandria.
Coaching Career
Kevin Burleson began his coaching career after his playing days. On June 15, 2018, he was hired by the Memphis Grizzlies. He worked as an assistant coach and player development coach for them.
On June 27, 2019, Kevin joined the Minnesota Timberwolves. He worked there as a player development coach. As of July 12, 2024, Kevin Burleson is an assistant coach for the Detroit Pistons.
