Kevin Ware Jr. (born January 3, 1993) is an American professional basketball player. He used to play for the University of Louisville. Kevin became widely known when he suffered a serious leg injury during a basketball game on March 31, 2013.

He also played for the Jordan national basketball team in 2022.

Early Life and High School

Kevin Ware was born in Bronx, New York, on January 3, 1993. His parents are Lisa Junior and Kevin Ware, Sr. He grew up with three sisters: Donna, Brittney, and Khadijah.

When Kevin was 14, his family moved to Atlanta. Soon after, they moved to Rockdale County, Georgia. This was so they could live in a quieter area. Kevin was a highly-rated basketball player in high school.

College Basketball Career

Kevin Ware played college basketball for the University of Louisville. In his first year, he played only a few minutes in games. In his second year, he started playing more. He often came off the bench to help the team.

Kevin had some challenges during this time. His playing time and performance improved later in the season. In the NCAA tournament, he showed his skills. He made a career-high 5 assists against Colorado State. Then, he scored a career-high 11 points against Oregon.

His Injury and Comeback

On March 31, 2013, something very difficult happened. During a big game against Duke, Kevin landed badly after trying to block a shot. This caused a serious injury to his right leg. Players and coaches from both teams were very upset to see it.

Even while he was on the court, Kevin kept saying, "I'm fine, just win the game." He was taken to the hospital. Doctors performed surgery to fix his leg. After the game, Louisville won, and his teammates wore his jersey to show their support. Many famous basketball players, like LeBron James and Kobe Bryant, sent messages of support to Kevin.

Returning to Play

Kevin Ware worked hard to recover from his injury. He returned to play basketball in an exhibition game. When he entered the game, the crowd gave him a huge cheer. He scored his first shot and received another big cheer.

After that season, Kevin decided to transfer to a new school. He wanted to be closer to Georgia. On April 12, 2014, he officially transferred to Georgia State University. The NCAA allowed him to play right away without waiting a year.

In 2015, Kevin was named the Most Valuable Player of the Sun Belt Conference men's basketball tournament. He led Georgia State to win the championship. This win sent them to the NCAA tournament. There, they surprised many by beating Baylor in the first round.

Professional Basketball Career

After college, Kevin Ware began his professional basketball career. On November 25, 2016, he signed with a team in the Czech Republic called BC Brno. He had started that season with a Finnish team, Kauhajoen Karhu.

On July 30, 2017, Kevin joined Faros Larissas in Greece. He played well there, averaging 12.4 points per game. Later, he signed with the London Lightning in Canada in 2018.

In 2020, Kevin signed with the London Lions in the UK. In 2021, he played for Novi Pazar in Serbia. He averaged 15.6 points and 5.8 assists per game there. On January 3, 2022, Kevin signed with Al Naft Baghdad in Iraq.
