Khaled Mashud, also known as Khaled Mashud Pilot, is a famous former Bangladeshi cricketer. He was born on February 8, 1976. He played as a wicketkeeper and a middle-order batsman. Khaled Mashud was a key player for the national team from 1995 to 2007.

His coach, Dav Whatmore, once called him the "best wicketkeeper in Asia." Khaled Mashud helped Bangladesh achieve its first ever ODI hat-trick. He did this by taking two catches from Shahadat Hossain's bowling. After he stopped playing international cricket in 2008, he continued to play for his local team, Rajshahi Division. He retired from all cricket in 2011 after leading his team to win a championship.

About Khaled Mashud's Life

Khaled Mashud's father, Shamsu, was a well-known Bangladeshi footballer in the 1970s. Shamsu played as a striker and helped his team, Abahani Krira Chakra, win the Dhaka First Division League in 1977.

Khaled Mashud has also served as the manager for the Bangladesh cricket team. He took on this role for a series of matches against New Zealand.

Starting His Cricket Journey

Khaled Mashud began playing for the Bangladesh Under-19 team in 1993. Besides being a wicketkeeper, he also batted at the important number 3 position. Within a few years, he joined the national team. He played against the England 'A' team in February 1995. His first One Day International (ODI) match was later that year in Sharjah.

Test Cricket Highlights

Khaled Mashud had a great start in Test cricket. In his first Test match against India in November 2000, he scored 32 runs and then 21 runs without being out.

One of his most memorable moments was in the West Indies in May 2004. Bangladesh was in trouble, having lost seven wickets for only 123 runs. But Mashud helped the team recover. He scored a fantastic 103 runs without being out. This helped Bangladesh declare their innings at 271 runs for 9 wickets. He received great support from his teammates Rafiq and Tapash.

As a wicketkeeper, he made 87 dismissals in 44 Test matches. This was impressive, especially since the team's bowlers were not always the strongest.

One Day International Achievements

Mashud was a key player when Bangladesh won the 1997 ICC Trophy. He was the top batsman for his country in that tournament, scoring 92 runs and only getting out once. He was named "Man of the Match" against Scotland. In that game, he scored 70 runs and shared a big partnership with Aminul Islam. In the final match, he scored a quick 15 runs from just 7 balls. This helped Bangladesh win the game on the very last ball. His innings included two big sixes. He also had a great time behind the stumps, with 12 catches and 11 stumpings.

Khaled Mashud often came to bat when his team was struggling in one-day games. Still, he managed to score his highest ODI score of 71 runs without being out, against Australia in 2005. Bangladesh's spin bowlers were very good in limited-over games. This gave Mashud more chances to show his skills as a wicketkeeper. He made 91 catches and 35 stumpings in ODIs, which shows how good he was.

Mashud was briefly the captain of Bangladesh. However, he lost his captaincy after the 2003 World Cup. His place in the team was later challenged by the rise of Mushfiqur Rahim. Also, Mashud had not scored a half-century in 24 Test innings. He was not chosen for the 2007 Cricket World Cup. After a short return against Sri Lanka, he was no longer a regular player. Rahim and Dhiman Ghosh became the preferred wicketkeepers. Khaled Mashud announced his retirement from international cricket in 2008.
