Mohammad Aminul Islam (Bengali: মোহাম্মদ আমিনুল ইসলাম; born February 2, 1968) is a famous former Bangladeshi cricketer and captain. People often call him by his nickname, 'Bulbul'.
Aminul Islam made history for the Bangladesh cricket team. He scored the very first hundred runs for Bangladesh in a Test match. This happened when Bangladesh played their first-ever Test against India. He is one of only three cricketers to score a century in their country's first Test match. Before Bangladesh became a full Test-playing nation, he was one of their most celebrated cricketers.

Early Cricket Days
Aminul Islam, also known as Bulbul, started playing cricket after an injury made him stop playing soccer. Just two years later, he was chosen to play for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Associates Young Cricketers' team. This was for the first Youth World Cup held in Australia. There, he took six wickets using his off spin bowling style. One of those wickets was against the famous cricketer Brian Lara.
In the same year, 1988, he played his first One Day International (ODI) match for Bangladesh. This was in the Asia Cup in Chittagong. He scored 27 runs in that match against Sri Lanka. A year later, he scored a century (100 runs) against Malaysia in the U-19 Asian Cup. In 1995, he scored another century against the England A team in a three-day match in Dhaka.
Playing in ODIs
Even though Aminul Islam's ODI career lasted from 1988 to 2002, he only played 39 matches. This is because before Bangladesh became a full member of the ICC in 2000, they didn't get to play many official ODI games.
Over time, Bulbul's role in the team changed. At first, he was a batsman who played lower down the batting order and also bowled off spin. Later in his career, he focused mostly on his batting. His highest score in an ODI was 70 runs, which he made against India in 1998. His best bowling performance was taking three wickets for 57 runs against Zimbabwe in 1997.

ICC Trophy Tournaments
Bulbul played for Bangladesh in three ICC Trophy tournaments. These were in 1990, 1994, and 1997. He didn't play as well as expected in 1990 and 1994. However, in the 1997 tournament in Kuala Lumpur, he started slowly but then performed very well in the important matches.
In the semi-final against Scotland, he scored 57 runs. He also shared a great partnership of 115 runs with Khaled Mashud. In the final match, he scored a quick 37 runs from 37 balls. He hit one six and one four in that innings. He also had a 53-run partnership with the team captain, Akram Khan.

In 1986, he played for East End Club in the First Division. However, his team was moved down to a lower league that year. The next year, he joined Victoria SC and continued to play in the First Division. Sadly, he got a serious injury while playing against Mohammedan SC. This injury ended his football career.
