A Glimpse into Kilburn's Past

Kilburn used to have a cool nickname: 'Little Chicago'! This was back in the middle of the 1900s. It probably got this name because it was a busy and lively place, maybe with lots of factories or fast-paced activity, just like the big city of Chicago in the USA.

If you live in Kilburn, there's a school right in the suburb called St Brigid's Primary School. It's a private Catholic school on Le Hunte Street. Sports and Fun in Kilburn

Did you know Kilburn once had its own speedway? The Kilburn Speedway was on the Kilburn Oval, at the corner of Carroll Avenue and Churchill Road (34°51′39″S 138°34′56″E / 34.86083°S 138.58222°E / -34.86083; 138.58222). It opened in February 1946 and closed a few years later in 1951. This track was used for exciting motorcycle speedway races. It even hosted the big South Australian Individual Speedway Championship four times between 1946 and 1950!
