Alejandro "Kim" Ilagan Atienza (born January 24, 1967), also known as Kuya Kim, is a well-known Filipino television host. Before becoming famous for his weather reports and trivia, he was a city councilor in Manila for nine years. Kuya Kim is best known for sharing interesting facts and knowledge on TV and radio, especially on his show Matanglawin.
He currently works at GMA Network. You can see him on 24 Oras, the game show TiktoClock, and the infotainment program Dami Mong Alam, Kuya Kim!. Kuya Kim is the oldest son of Lito Atienza, a former mayor of Manila.

Kuya Kim's Education Journey
In 1984, Kim Atienza started college at the University of Santo Tomas. He studied Education for one year. The next year, he moved to the University of the Philippines Diliman. There, he earned his degree in Film and Audiovisual Communication. It took him seven years to finish college. He once said he didn't like school much, but he loved learning new things on his own.

Serving the City: Political Career (1995–2004)
Kim Atienza was involved in politics for twelve years. From 1995 to 2004, he served as a councilor for the 5th district of Manila. He held this position for three terms. In 2004, he tried to become a representative for Manila but did not win. His father, who was then the mayor, asked him to run for mayor in 2007. However, Kuya Kim decided to leave politics.
From Radio to TV: Broadcasting Career (1987–Present)
Kuya Kim started his career in broadcasting in the early 1990s. He was an anchor for "Mata ng Agila," an early morning news show on DZEC Radyo Agila 1062.
He began his TV journey by hosting "Animalandia" on Magandang Umaga, Pilipinas. He also did voice acting in the 90s. He voiced Takeru (renamed Michael Joe) in the Japanese series Hikari Sentai Maskman. Later, he also voiced Steve Armstrong in the Filipino version of the 1999 Voltes V film.
He became a weather tracker for ABS-CBN's TV Patrol. After the original weather anchor, Ernie Baron, passed away in 2006, Kuya Kim became the main weather presenter.
In 2009, he left the morning show Umagang Kay Ganda. He then joined the variety show It's Showtime as a host. He also started hosting his popular show Matanglawin on March 24, 2008.
He returned to radio on DZMM with the show Sakto, co-hosting with Amy Perez-Castillo.
On September 29, 2021, Kuya Kim announced he was leaving ABS-CBN. He moved to GMA Network on October 1. His last appearance on TV Patrol was on that day. He officially joined GMA's news show 24 Oras on October 4. He started his own segment called "#KuyaKimAnoNa" on October 11. He also hosted the talk show Mars Pa More and the news magazine show Dapat Alam Mo! on GTV. In July 2022, Kuya Kim became a lead host for the noontime variety game show TiktoClock.

Family Life and Hobbies
Kim Atienza is married to Felicia Hung. They have three children named Jose III, Eliana, and Emman. Felicia is the president and a founder of Chinese International School Manila. Kuya Kim loves sports and is an avid marathoner, triathlete, and cyclist. His father is politician Lito Atienza, and his siblings include Ali Atienza, Maile Atienza, and Chi Atienza.
His daughter, Eliana Atienza, attends the University of Pennsylvania. In May 2024, she was temporarily moved from her dormitory due to her involvement in student activities. Kuya Kim clarified that Eliana was not "homeless" but simply relocated. He also stated she was not expelled from her school.
Health Challenges and Recovery
In 2010, Kuya Kim had a stroke. In 2013, he was diagnosed with Guillain–Barré syndrome. This is a rare disease that affects the nervous system. Kuya Kim fully recovered from these health challenges. Since then, he has completed several marathons and Ironman races. He continues to compete in sports events today.
