Alejandro "Kim" Ilagan Atienza (born January 24, 1967) is a well-known Filipino television host. Many people know him as Kuya Kim. He is famous for sharing interesting facts and trivia on TV and radio.

Before becoming a popular TV personality, Kuya Kim was a councilor in Manila for nine years. He is the oldest son of former Manila Mayor Lito Atienza. Today, he works at GMA Network. He presents segments on news shows like 24 Oras and 24 Oras Weekend. He also hosts the game show TiktoClock and the infotainment program Dami Mong Alam, Kuya Kim!.

Education

In 1984, Kim Atienza started studying Education at the University of Santo Tomas. A year later, he moved to the University of Philippines Diliman. There, he earned a degree in Film and Audiovisual Communication. It took him seven years to finish college. He once said he didn't like school much, but he loved learning on his own.

Career

Political Journey (1995–2004)

Kim Atienza was involved in politics for twelve years. From 1995 to 2004, he served as a councilor for the 5th district of Manila. A councilor is like a local leader who helps make decisions for the city.

One famous event during his time as councilor happened in 1998. He proposed a resolution to declare actress Claire Danes as persona non grata. This means she was no longer welcome in the city. This happened after she made comments about Manila's cleanliness.

In 2004, he ran to become a representative for Manila but did not win. His father, who was then the mayor, asked him to run for mayor in 2007. However, Kim Atienza decided to leave politics. He said the world of politics felt "scary" to him.

Radio and TV Work (1987–Present)

Kim Atienza started his career in broadcasting in the early 1990s. He was an anchor for a morning newscast called "Mata ng Agila" on DZEC Radyo Agila 1062.

He began working on TV by hosting "Animalandia" on Magandang Umaga, Pilipinas. He also did voice acting in the 90s. He was the voice of Takeru (renamed Michael Joe) in the Japanese show Hikari Sentai Maskman. He also voiced Steve Armstrong in the Filipino version of the 1999 Voltes V film.

He became a weather tracker for ABS-CBN's TV Patrol. After the original weather presenter, Ernie Baron, passed away in 2006, Kim Atienza became the main weather anchor.

In 2009, he left the morning show Umagang Kay Ganda. He then joined It's Showtime, which was a variety show. On March 24, 2008, he started hosting his own show, Matanglawin. This show became very popular for its educational and trivia segments.

He also returned to radio in 2018. He co-hosted "Sakto" on Radyo 630 with Amy Perez-Castillo.

On September 29, 2021, Kim Atienza announced he was leaving ABS-CBN. He moved to GMA Network on October 1, 2021. His last appearance on TV Patrol was on that same day. He officially joined GMA's competing newscast, 24 Oras, on October 4. He started his own segment called "#KuyaKimAnoNa" on October 11.

He also hosted other shows on GMA. He was a main host for Mars Pa More from November 2021 to 2022. He also hosted Dapat Alam Mo! on GTV from October 2021 to October 2024. In July 2022, he became a lead host for the noontime variety game show TiktoClock.

Personal Life

Family

Kim Atienza is married to Felicia Hung. They have three children named Jose III, Eliana, and Emman. Felicia is the president and a founder of the Chinese International School Manila. Kim Atienza loves sports. He is a dedicated marathon runner, triathlete, and cyclist. His father is politician Lito Atienza, and his siblings are Ali Atienza, Maile Atienza, and Chi Atienza.

His daughter, Eliana Atienza, studied at the University of Pennsylvania.

Health and Recovery

In 2010, Kim Atienza had a stroke. Later, in 2013, he was diagnosed with Guillain–Barré syndrome. This is a rare condition that affects the nervous system.

Kim Atienza fully recovered from these health challenges. Since then, he has completed many marathons and Ironman races. He continues to compete in sports events and often leads in his age group.
