Story of the Prism King Cup
A group called Schwarz Rose has taken control of a popular song called "Pride." This means Hiro Hayami cannot use it in the Prism King Cup. He can only use it if his school, Edel Rose, pays a huge amount of money.
Kazuki Nishina chooses Taiga Kougami to take his place. Kazuki then goes to train with Rei Kurokawa. Later, Edel Rose finds out that Koji Mihama is writing music for Schwarz Rose's new star, Joji Takadanobaba. Hiro travels to the United States to talk to Koji. Meanwhile, Kazuki continues his training with Rei.
Ryo Yamada, a janitor at Edel Rose, used to be a famous Prism Star. He now helps train the other Edel Rose students for the Prism King Cup.
One night, Louis Kisaragi invites Shin Ichijo out. Louis asks Shin to open a locket he gave him, which shows a picture of Shine. While they perform a Prism Show, Louis's special move ends with him showing his feelings for Shin. Shin wakes up at Edel Rose, thinking it was all a dream.
Hiro has to continue without Koji's help. Jin Norizuki causes trouble for Hijiri Himuro and tries to get June Amou to join him. Jin wants to take everything from Hijiri. Soon, Edel Rose faces many problems. Despite this, Hijiri tells Hiro that Jin was very jealous of his Prism Star career. Jin even hurt Hijiri's leg badly. Hijiri promises to help Hiro.
Later, Hiro's mother and other Edel Rose students show their support. Yu and Ito give Hiro another song from Koji to use. Hijiri then announces that Taiga, Yukinojo Tachibana, and Hiro will enter the Prism King Cup. But Yukinojo decides not to compete. He asks for Shin to take his place, even though Shin has lost his ability to do Prism Jumps.
The Prism King Cup Begins
The Prism King Cup starts with the Thunder Storm Session. Points are earned using a special Prism System. This system uses watches that measure the audience's feelings. Joji earns many points, putting Schwarz Rose in the lead. This is partly because Jin bribed the judges and placed his own people in the audience.
Alexander Yamato gets angry and damages the stadium. He challenges Kazuki to another duel. Taiga steps in, and both Alexander and Taiga are disqualified. Kazuki performs his song "Freedom" and fixes the stadium. He also makes the audience excited again, but he is also disqualified.
Shin performs "Over the Sunshine!" Louis gives Shin his earring, which helps Shin do Prism Jumps again. Shin's performance is very popular, but he gets fewer points than Joji. He ends up in second place.
Instead of performing "Pride," Louis performs "Lunatic Destiny." His special Prism Jump helps June remember things from Pretty Rhythm: Rainbow Live. She remembers that Louis is a special Prism Messenger, like Rinne. She also remembers that Shin was Shine, Rinne's partner. Louis is the first to do four Prism Jumps in a row at the Cup. He earns the most points and takes first place.
The Final Performance
Hiro decides not to use the song Yu and Ito gave him. Instead, he performs "Pride" and amazes everyone. The Prism Goddess even crowns him as king. Hiro earns the same high score as Louis. Before the final results are announced, someone tries to destroy the screen.
However, Kakeru Juuouin reveals that his company has a backup of all the scores. Louis then lets Hiro take the win. With Edel Rose winning, Koji tells Kazuki and Hiro that his work in Hollywood is done. This means the group Over the Rainbow can perform together again.
June gets her memories back and returns to Hijiri. Louis promises to stay with Jin, even though he has feelings for Shin.
The end credits show that Edel Rose recovers from its problems. The students continue with their lives. After the credits, Over the Rainbow performs their song "Nijiiro Crown." This happens as they graduate from Edel Rose and Kakyoin Academy.

How the Movie Was Made
King of Prism: Pride the Hero was first announced in 2016. It was planned to be released in June 2017. The main idea for the story was shown at the end of the first movie, King of Prism by Pretty Rhythm. The creators were not sure if the first movie would do well.
A sequel was not originally planned. But the first movie was a huge success! Because of this, Avex Pictures decided to make a second movie.
For Pride the Hero, director Mazakazu Hishida wanted to add more exciting battle scenes. He wanted to entertain male viewers. A good example is the Prism Show battle between Alexander and Taiga. Taiga's special move, where he uses a fan to blow away Alexander's attack, was made for fans to copy during special cheer screenings.
Soon after the movie was announced, it was confirmed that Emiri Kato and Ayane Sakura would return. They would voice Naru and Rinne from Pretty Rhythm: Rainbow Live. The character Joji Takadanobaba was created just for Tomokazu Sugita. He had promoted the first movie a lot on social media.
King of Prism: Pride the Hero opened in theaters on June 10, 2017. The movie was also shown at the Los Angeles Film Festival. This happened between September 21 and 23, 2018.
What Came Next
King of Prism: Shiny Seven Stars was announced in 2018. It was planned as both a movie and a TV series. The movie version was made of four films. Each film combined three TV episodes. These movies had special cheer screenings from March to May 2019. The TV show started airing on TV Tokyo on April 8, 2019.
Other Ways to Enjoy the Story
A stage play was made based on both King of Prism by Pretty Rhythm and King of Prism: Pride the Hero. It was called King of Prism: Over the Sunshine!. The play ran in Osaka from November 2-5, 2017. It also played in Tokyo from November 8-12, 2017.
Masanari Ujikawa directed the play. Jou Aoba, who wrote the movie, and Rei Ishizuka, who composed the music, also worked on the play. The cast included Shohei Hashimoto as Shin and Koji Kominami as Koji. Masashi Igarashi played Minato again, just like in the movie.
