What is a Prism Show?
The Pretty Rhythm series is all about "Prism Stars." These are like idols who perform amazing figure skating routines. They sing and dance, and they can do special moves called Prism Jumps. These performances are called Prism Shows. The audience's excitement decides how well a show is scored.
There are two main styles of Prism Shows for boys. "Academy-style" shows are formal and aim to charm the audience. "Street-style" shows use street dancing and are not officially recognized.
The Story Begins
The King of Prism story starts about a year and a half after Pretty Rhythm: Rainbow Live. It follows a new student named Shin Ichijo. He joins Edel Rose Academy because he's inspired by the famous group Over the Rainbow. Shin wants to train hard to become a top Prism Star.
However, Edel Rose has a rival school called Schwarz Rose. This school is run by Jin Norizuki, the former supervisor of Edel Rose. Schwarz Rose becomes the main competitor for Shin and his friends.

How King of Prism Was Made
Hiroko Nishi and Takeshi Yoda wanted to make a TV show about Over the Rainbow. These were the male characters from Pretty Rhythm: Rainbow Live. Their first idea was turned down. Even when they reworked it into a movie, it was rejected again. The staff were told they needed to prove the project would be popular.
When Over the Rainbow's song, "Athletic Core," became very popular, they made a music album for them. In 2015, Over the Rainbow appeared in the movie Gekijō-ban PriPara: Minna Atsumare! Prism Tours. This movie ended with a hint about their return. Fans loved it and went to special "cheer screenings" many times. Because of this huge success, Avex Pictures approved the King of Prism by Pretty Rhythm film.
