Aomori Prefecture (青森県, Aomori-ken) is a special area in the Tōhoku region of Japan. It is located on the island of Honshū. The main city and capital is Aomori. Aomori Prefecture is known for its beautiful nature and delicious apples!

History
For a long time, before the year 1868, the land that is now Aomori Prefecture was part of a bigger area called Mutsu Province. This changed during the Meiji Restoration, a time when Japan went through big changes.
Geography
Aomori Prefecture is the northernmost part of Honshū island. It faces Hokkaidō island across a narrow water passage called the Tsugaru Strait. To its south, Aomori shares borders with Akita Prefecture and Iwate Prefecture.

Shrines and Temples
Tsutsukowake jinja is a very important Shinto shrine in Aomori Prefecture. It is known as the chief shrine (or ichinomiya) for the area. Shinto shrines are places of worship in Japan.
