Kitscoty is a small village located in central Alberta, Canada. It sits where two main roads meet: Highway 16 (also called the Yellowhead Highway) and Highway 897. This makes it easy to get around.
The village is about halfway between the cities of Edmonton (225 km away) and Saskatoon (295 km away). It is also close to Lloydminster. The CN railway tracks run through Kitscoty, too. The main office for the surrounding County of Vermilion River is right here in Kitscoty.
Kitscoty is in a rich farming area. There is also a lot of heavy oil activity nearby. Both farming and oil provide many jobs for the people who live in the village.
Kitscoty's Story: A Look Back
The first people to settle in the Kitscoty area arrived in 1905. The community officially became a village in 1911. Kitscoty was an important trading spot. It served a large area, from Cold Lake in the north to the Battle River in the south.
The village's name, Kitscoty, comes from a famous group of three large stones. These stones are arranged like a tripod. They are found near a place in England called Kit's Coty House.
