Ko Young-min (Hangul: 고영민; Hanja: 高永民; born February 8, 1984) is a former professional baseball player from South Korea. He was a second baseman and played for the Doosan Bears team in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) league. He played from 2002 to 2016 and was known for batting and throwing with his right hand.

Ko Young-min's Baseball Journey

Starting His Professional Career

Ko Young-min joined the Doosan Bears in 2002. He was picked in the second round of the KBO Draft. For a few years, he mostly played for the team's reserve (practice) squad. He worked hard to improve his skills.

Becoming a Star Player

In 2006, Ko became a regular player at second base for the Bears. The team's older second baseman, Ahn Kyung-hyun, moved to first base. Ko played in 116 games that year. He hit for a .270 average. He also had 85 hits, 29 RBIs (runs batted in), and 14 stolen bases.

The next year, 2007, was even better. Ko played in all 126 regular-season games. He hit 12 home runs and had 66 RBIs. He led the KBO league in runs scored (89). He was also third in stolen bases with 36. After this great season, he won his first Golden Glove Award for second base.

In 2008, Ko continued to shine. He had a career-high 70 RBIs. He also scored 84 runs and stole 39 bases. He led the KBO league in walks (74). He was a top player in runs, stolen bases, and RBIs.

Olympic Gold and WBC Silver

In August 2008, Ko Young-min joined the South Korea national baseball team. They played in the 2008 Summer Olympics. The team won the gold medal in the baseball tournament! Ko hit a big three-run home run in one game. This helped Korea win against Chinese Taipei.

Before the 2009 KBO season, Ko played in the 2009 World Baseball Classic (WBC). This is a big international tournament. He batted .308, getting 4 hits in 13 tries. He shared the second base position with Jeong Keun-woo. In one game, Ko hit a solo home run. This helped his team beat Mexico 8–2.
