Kristína Kučová (born May 23, 1990) is a tennis player from Slovakia. She is known for her strong performances in both junior and professional tennis. Kristína reached her highest singles ranking of world No. 71 in September 2016. She also achieved a doubles ranking of No. 168 in October 2009.

She has won one major title on the WTA Challenger Tour. She also has won eleven singles titles and five doubles titles on the ITF Women's Circuit.

Kristína Kučová was born in Bratislava, which was then part of Czechoslovakia. Her older sister, Zuzana, was also a professional tennis player. Zuzana retired from the sport in 2013.

Her Tennis Journey

Junior Success

Kristína was a very talented junior player. In 2007, she won the girls' singles title at the US Open. She was not a top favorite to win, but she surprised many by defeating strong opponents. These included the defending champion Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and the second seed Urszula Radwańska in the final.

She also reached the quarterfinals in girls' doubles at both the Wimbledon and French Open in 2007. Her success in junior tennis helped her reach a high junior ranking of world No. 3.

Kristína turned professional in 2007. Her career has seen many ups and downs, including injuries.

2014: First WTA Semifinal

In 2014, Kristína reached her first semifinal on the main WTA Tour at the Bucharest Open. She played well to get there but lost in the semifinals. That year, she also won two smaller tournaments on the ITF Circuit in Poland and Belgium.

2016: Breaking into the Top 100

The year 2016 was a big one for Kristína. She had a great run at the Canadian Open, which is a very important tournament. She beat several higher-ranked players, including the No. 8 seed Carla Suárez Navarro and Johanna Konta. She reached the semifinals of this big event, which was her best result at a WTA Premier-level tournament. After this success, she entered the top 100 players in the world for the first time.

2019–2023: WTA 125 Title and First WTA Final

In 2020, Kristína won her first WTA 125 title at the Sparta Prague Open. She defeated Elisabetta Cocciaretto in the final.

In 2021, she reached her first final on the main WTA Tour at the Poland Open. Although she played well, she lost to Maryna Zanevska in the final. Later that year, at the US Open, she won her first main draw match at that major tournament.

Kristína has also represented her country, Slovakia, in the Fed Cup. This is a major team competition in women's tennis.
