Krzysztof January Krawczyk (born September 8, 1946 – died April 5, 2021) was a famous Polish pop singer, guitarist, and composer. He was known for his deep voice. From 1963 to 1973, he was the lead singer of a popular Polish band called Trubadurzy (which means "the Troubadours"). After that, he started his amazing solo career.

Krzysztof's music mixed different styles like rock and roll, country music, and rhythm & blues. One of his albums, To co w życiu ważne (meaning What's important in life), even reached number one on the Polish music charts!

About Krzysztof Krawczyk

Krzysztof Krawczyk taught himself how to play the guitar. He also practiced his singing skills while attending a music school in Łódź. However, he had to leave his studies early. This was because his father, who was an actor, passed away. Krzysztof became the only person in his family who could earn money.

In 1963, he helped start a band called Trubadurzy. It became one of the most famous Polish bands of the 1960s. The band mixed rock music with traditional Polish folk music.

His Solo Music Journey

Ten years after joining Trubadurzy, Krzysztof began his solo career. In the 1970s, he recorded many hit songs. Some of these popular songs included Parostatek (The Steamship) and Ostatni raz zatańczysz ze mną (You'll Dance with Me That Last Time).

He performed at many big music festivals in Poland, like those in Opole and Sopot. He also toured and performed in many countries across Europe. Even today, his songs from the 1970s are still very popular.

Around 1985, Krzysztof worked with a famous comedian named Bohdan Smoleń. They released some funny songs together. These songs were quite different from his usual style.

In 1981, Krzysztof Krawczyk moved to the U.S.. He performed there and recorded an album in Indianapolis. This album, called "From a Different Place," was released in 1982. A song from it, "Solidarity," was played a lot on the radio in some American cities. For American audiences, his name was sometimes shortened to "Krystof."

After returning to Poland in the mid-1980s, he needed time to recover his voice. In 1988, he was in a car accident and suffered several injuries. He needed many months of therapy to get better.

In the 1990s, he went back to the U.S. for a while. He returned to Poland in 1994. At first, music producers weren't very interested in his work. So, he started making disco polo music, which was a very popular dance music style in Poland. He later said this helped him through tough times, as these albums were very successful.

He made a big comeback with new hit songs like Jestem sobą (I'm Myself) and Bo jesteś Ty (Because You Are). He also sang with many other famous artists, including Andrzej Piaseczny, Edyta Bartosiewicz, Goran Bregović, and Rod Stewart.

In 2000, Krzysztof Krawczyk had the special honor of performing for Pope John Paul II in Saint Peter's Square in Vatican City.

His Family Life

Krzysztof Krawczyk was married three times. His first marriage was to Grażyna Adamus, whom he knew from school. He had a son with his second wife, Halina Żytkowiak. Krzysztof lived in a small village called Grotniki with his third wife, Ewa. They did not have children together, but he lovingly adopted Ewa's sister's three daughters. Krzysztof shared that he was a very religious person.
