How Kuridala Got Its Name

The town was first called Gulatten. Then it became Hampden. After that, it was known as Friezland. Finally, in October 1916, it was named Kuridala. The name Kuridala is believed to be an Aboriginal word. It means eagle hawk.

Friezland State School

Friezland Provisional School opened around 1901. It closed in 1904 because there weren't enough students. But it reopened in 1906! On January 1, 1909, it became Friezland State School. In 1920, the school was renamed Kuridala State School. It closed for good around 1932.

Ballara State School

Another school, Ballara State School, opened around May 1919. It taught students for a few years. This school closed around March 1925.
