Kyren James Wilson (born 23 December 1991) is an English professional snooker player from Kettering. He is known for his exciting style of play. Kyren has won eight major snooker tournaments that count for world rankings. He is also the current world champion, winning the biggest title in snooker in 2024.

Kyren first became a professional player in the 2010–11 season. After a short break, he returned to professional snooker in the 2013–14 season and has been playing ever since. In 2015, when he was ranked 54th in the world, he won his first big title, the Shanghai Masters. He beat Judd Trump in a very close final. Kyren has also won other important tournaments like the 2019 German Masters, the 2022 European Masters, the first-ever 2024 Xi'an Grand Prix, and the 2024 Northern Ireland Open.

He reached the finals of two "Triple Crown" events (the three biggest tournaments in snooker) but lost them. However, in 2024, he won his first world title at the 2024 World Snooker Championship. This big win helped him reach his highest ever ranking of third in the world. Kyren has made over 450 "century breaks" (scoring 100 points or more in one turn) and five "maximum breaks" (scoring the highest possible 147 points).

Kyren's Snooker Journey

Starting Out (2009–2013)

Kyren Wilson started his snooker journey by playing in amateur events. In the 2009–10 season, he won an event in the International Open Series. This helped him earn a spot on the professional World Snooker Tour for the 2010–11 snooker season.

During his first professional year, he played well in the UK Championship and the World Championship qualifiers. He reached the third round in both. Even though he played well, he lost his professional spot after one season. Kyren worked hard and managed to get back on the professional tour in 2013.

Becoming a Top Player (2013–2017)

When Kyren returned to the professional game, he quickly showed his talent. In 2013, he reached the quarter-finals of the Shanghai Masters. This was his first time getting so far in a major tournament. He even beat a higher-ranked player, Stuart Bingham.

Kyren also qualified for the World Championship for the first time in 2014. He described playing at the Crucible Theatre, where the World Championship is held, as a "dream come true."

The 2015–16 season was a huge one for Kyren. He won his first ranking title at the Shanghai Masters. He was ranked 54th in the world, making him one of the lowest-ranked players to win such a big event since 2005. This win boosted his ranking to 22nd. He also reached the semi-finals of the German Masters.

In 2016, Kyren made it to the quarter-finals of the World Championship. He also reached the final of the Indian Open, but finished as runner-up. He continued to play well, reaching the semi-finals of the Northern Ireland Open in the same season.

Reaching Finals and Big Wins (2017–2022)

In 2017, Kyren made his first official maximum break (147 points) during a match. This is a very rare and impressive achievement in snooker. In January 2018, he reached the final of The Masters, one of the three biggest snooker tournaments. He was the first player born in the 1990s to reach a Triple Crown final. He also made it to the semi-finals of the World Championship that year.

The 2019–20 season saw Kyren reach the final of the World Championship. He played against the legendary Ronnie O'Sullivan in the final. Although he lost, reaching the final was a huge achievement. During this season, he also made his second competitive 147 break at the Welsh Open.

In the 2020–21 snooker season, Kyren won his fourth ranking event, the Championship League. He beat Judd Trump in the final, who was the world number one at the time. He also reached the semi-finals of the World Championship for the second year in a row.

Becoming World Champion (2022–2024)

In the 2022–23 snooker season, Kyren won his fifth ranking title at the European Masters. He played very well throughout the tournament, beating Barry Hawkins in the final. He also made another maximum break during his first-round match at the World Championship.

The 2023–24 season was the most important one for Kyren. At the World Championship, he played incredibly well. He reached his second World Championship final, where he faced Jak Jones. Kyren won the match 18–14, becoming the World Snooker Champion for the first time! This was a dream come true for him and a huge moment in his career.

After becoming world champion, Kyren continued his winning streak. He won the 2024 Xi'an Grand Prix and the 2024 Northern Ireland Open, both by beating Judd Trump in the finals.
