LIU Post is a private university located in Brookville, New York, on Long Island. It is a big part of Long Island University (LIU). In fact, it is the largest campus in the LIU family of schools.

The campus is named after C. W. Post. His daughter, Marjorie Merriweather Post, sold her large estate to Long Island University in 1951. Three years later, the university named the campus after her father.

Exploring the LIU Post Campus

LIU Post is spread across 307 acres (1.24 km2) of beautiful, rolling hills. It is located in Brookville, New York, on Long Island's North Shore. Sometimes, people say the area is Greenvale because the local post office is there. The Greenvale train station is also nearby.

Main Buildings and Learning Spaces

Many classes are held in buildings like Humanities Hall and Life Sciences/Pell Hall. These are important for core subjects. Other classes happen in Hoxie Hall, Roth Hall, and Lorber Hall. Students also learn in the Theater Film and Dance building, Sculpture Studio, and Fine Arts Center. The B. Davis Schwartz Memorial Library and the Kahn Discovery Center are also key learning spots.

Arts and Student Life

The Tilles Center for the Performing Arts is on campus. It hosts many musical and theatrical events. This center is a great place to enjoy shows.

The Hillwood Commons is the main student activities center. It has offices for things like financial aid. It also has places for students to relax and study. You can find the Hillwood Cafe, Subway, and Starbucks here. These are popular dining spots. The Winnick Student Center is the main dining hall for students who live on campus.

Hillwood Commons is a meeting place for all students. It helps them get to know each other outside of classes. It also has a computer lab, a cinema, and the school bookstore. You can even find student-run businesses here.

The Interfaith Chapel

The LIU Post Interfaith Chapel is a special place for all faiths. It offers religious services and works with community groups. The chapel was designed in a classic Georgian style. It has a beautiful domed rotunda and tall columns at its entrance.

Living on Campus

Students can live in one of eight residence halls on campus. These halls are co-ed, meaning both males and females live there. They are separated by floor or wing. Each hall can house from 40 to 380 students.

Suffolk, Kings, Queens, and Nassau Halls are known as the "Freshman Quad." All first-year students living on campus stay in these buildings. The South Residence Complex, also called the Suites, has a different design. Up to eight students share a common living area, bedrooms, and a semi-private bathroom. All residence halls have lounges for relaxing or studying. They also have laundry facilities.

University Rebranding

In January 2012, Long Island University changed its name to LIU. They also introduced a new, simpler logo. The old logo had a map of Long Island. The new one just has the bold letters "LIU" and a triangle. The triangle is a Greek symbol for change and moving forward. The names of LIU's six campuses also became shorter. This helped unite them under the new LIU brand. The C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University then became known as LIU Post.

University Accreditations

LIU Post is officially registered with the New York State Education Department. It is also accredited by the Commission of Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. This means the university meets high standards for education.

Most students come from eastern Long Island, New York City, and the surrounding areas. However, there are also students from other parts of the country and from around the world.

The university has several Greek Life organizations. These include Alpha Epsilon Phi, Alpha Xi Delta, Delta Zeta, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Phi Sigma Kappa, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Sigma Delta Tau, and Tau Kappa Epsilon.

Athletics and Sports

The sports teams at Long Island University are called the LIU Sharks. They compete at the Division I level. This is the highest level for college sports in the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

Before 2019, the university had two different sports teams. The C.W. Post campus had the LIU Post Pioneers, who competed in Division II. The LIU campus in Brooklyn had the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds, who competed in Division I.

In July 2019, the two campuses combined their sports teams. They formed a single team, the LIU Sharks, and now all compete in Division I.

Besides the official NCAA sports, students can also play other sports for fun. These include basketball, swimming, and volleyball. They can do this at the Pratt Recreation Center. The center also has a fitness area for workouts. The athletic fields and courts are used for recreational baseball, football, soccer, softball, and tennis.

The Pratt Center is also a place where high school basketball playoff games are held for Nassau County.
