LaQuan Smith was born in Queens, New York, on August 30, 1988. As he grew up, he became very interested in fashion and design. His passion grew even stronger when he was 13 years old. His grandmother gave him her old Singer sewing machine.
With the sewing machine, LaQuan started designing and making clothes all the time. He finished high school in Delaware at Glasgow High School in 2007. Soon after, he began his journey in the fashion world.
Starting a Fashion Career
In 2005, LaQuan Smith tried to get into two well-known fashion schools: the Fashion Institute of Technology and Parsons School of Design. However, he was not accepted into either school. This did not stop him from pursuing his dream.
In 2007, he began working as an intern at BlackBook magazine in New York. He worked with a famous fashion stylist named Elizabeth Sulcer. LaQuan even attended fashion events by pretending to be an editor for BlackBook. In 2008, he officially launched his own fashion brand, named after himself.
