About La Fouine
Laouni Mouhid grew up in Trappes, a town near Paris, France. He is one of seven children. His parents are from Casablanca, Morocco. One of his brothers, Hakim, is also a rapper known as Canardo. La Fouine has talked about his family in his songs.
He left school when he was fifteen years old. He wanted to focus on making rap music. Early in his career, he was part of a group called "FORS". They even won second prize in a music competition. La Fouine faced some tough times when he was younger.
In 2002, his daughter, Fatima, was born. She was named after his mother. His mother passed away in 2005, which inspired his song "Je regarde là-haut". La Fouine is also a big fan of the amateur football club ESA Linas-Montlhéry.
Music Career
Early Music: Bourré au Son (2005)
La Fouine first gained attention with his street-tape called Planète Trappes. This helped him become known in the rap scene. In 2005, he released his first album, Bourré au Son. This album had a strong California rap style. Songs like "L'unité" and "Quelque chose de spécial" were popular. They were played on many French radio stations.
Second Album: Aller-Retour (2007)
Before his second album, La Fouine released Planète Trappes Volume 2. This mixtape helped launch his brother Canardo's career. On March 12, 2007, La Fouine released his second album, Aller-Retour. The first song from this album was "Reste en Chien" with Booba. Other popular songs included "Qui peut me stopper" and "Tombé pour elle" with Amel Bent. This album was certified gold, meaning it sold many copies.
Mes Repères and Platinum Success (2009)
La Fouine released another street-tape, Capitale du Crime. This mixtape featured rappers from his home area, Yvelines. His third album, Mes Repères, came out in February 2009. It quickly became very successful. By October 2009, it was certified gold. The album included collaborations with other artists like Soprano and his brother Canardo. Today, Mes Repères is certified platinum, showing its huge success.
Double Album: La Fouine vs Laouni (2011)
In 2011, La Fouine released a double album called La Fouine vs Laouni. The first song was "Passe-leur le salam" with Rohff. Another song, "Caillera for Life", featured American rapper The Game. The Game even tried rapping in French on this track! A very personal song from the album, "Papa", is about La Fouine's father.
La Fouine also had a big concert in Paris in May 2011. He performed with singer Zaho there. Later, other rappers like Kamelancien and Sultan joined the record label that manages La Fouine, "S-Kal Records". The La Fouine vs Laouni album was re-released with new songs and remixes. This album also achieved platinum certification.
Drôle de Parcours (2013)
On September 10, 2012, La Fouine announced his new album, Drôle de Parcours. The first song, "Paname Boss", was released in November 2012. It featured many other rappers like Sniper, Niro, Youssoupha, Canardo, Fababy, and Sultan. Another popular song from the album was "Ma Meilleure" with Zaho. The album sold 60,000 copies and was certified gold.
Team BS Project (2014)
In 2013, La Fouine started a new hip hop group called Team BS. This project came from his record label, Banlieue Sale. "BS" stands for Banlieue Sale. Team BS includes La Fouine, Fababy, Sultan, and singer Sindy. Sindy was discovered on the French TV show Popstars, where La Fouine was a judge. The group also includes producer Pascal Lemaire, known as DJ Skalp.
Team BS had a hit song in 2013 called "Team BS". They also released a music video for it. In January 2014, they released another song, "Case départ". The group planned to release an album called Les affaires commencent.
