Lake City is a small community in Modoc County, California. It used to be called Tri-Lake City. Lake City is located about 8.5 miles (13.7 km) north-northwest of Cedarville. It sits at an elevation of 4,626 feet (1,410 meters) above sea level.
In 2020, the population of Lake City was 71 people. This was a small increase from 61 people in 2010. The first post office in Lake City opened a long time ago, in 1868. The ZIP Code for Lake City is 96115.
A book from 1913 mentioned that Lake City was near Upper Alkali Lake. At that time, it had about 150 residents. The town is also mentioned in a 1995 travel book called California Fault. The author, Thurston Clarke, wrote about his great-grandfather's travels in the 1850s through the Fandango Pass in Modoc County.
