Lake George in Steuben County
This Lake George is a popular spot for fun activities. It sits right on the border between Indiana and Michigan. About two-thirds of the lake is in Steuben County, Indiana, and one-third is in Branch County, Michigan.
Nearby Towns
You can find this lake near several towns. In Indiana, these include Angola and Fremont. In Michigan, the towns are Coldwater and Kinderhook.
Lake Features and History
At the south end of the lake, there's a mill pond and a dam. These were built way back in the 1930s. This area is also home to Jamestown, a community that used to be very busy. Important spots on the lake include Brown's Point and Grandy's Point.
For many years, there were local businesses here. These included Wolfie's grocery store and Clay's restaurant. There was also the Lake George Retreat restaurant and Tom's Donuts. The only marina on the lake is now called Dream Toy Store at Lake George. It does not rent out boats.
Community and Events
Lake George is home to two important groups. One is the international headquarters for the Inland cat Class Sailing Association. The other is the Lake George Cottagers Association, which started in 1927.
Years ago, most homes around the lake were just for vacations. Now, many people live there all year round. Older vacation homes are often being torn down or rebuilt. They are becoming bigger, permanent homes.
The Indiana side of the lake hosts two fun yearly festivals. One is Big Al's Lakeside Funfest (BALF) in July. The other is Deckfest, usually held before Labor Day weekend.
Interesting Rumor
There's a common rumor about this lake. People say that the famous bank robber, John Dillinger, once hid out here. He and his gang supposedly stayed in a lakefront home. This house is still standing today. The location was likely chosen because it was close to the state line. This would have made it easier for the gang to escape local police.

This Lake George is in Hobart, Indiana, within Lake County, Indiana. It was created in 1845 when a dam was built on the Deep River. It's a medium-sized lake that flows through the city.
Activities and Entertainment
The lake is a popular spot for people to gather. Many enjoy walking along the city's waterfront. During warmer months, you can often find live music. This happens near the clock tower in Lakefront Park. It also takes place at the Revelli Bandshell. Fishing and boating are two favorite activities on this lake.

Lake George in Hammond
This Lake George is located in Hammond, Indiana, also in Lake County, Indiana. It's a smaller lake made up of two parts: a north basin and a south basin. It lies east of Wolf Lake and Calumet Avenue. This area is known as the Robertsdale neighborhood.
Trail and Golf
The Lake George Trail is a 3.1-mile greenway. It runs right between the two parts of the lake. Just south of the lake is the Lost March Golf Course. This course has both an 18-hole and a 9-hole course. The Hammond Port Authority manages and takes care of it. Parts of the lake were filled in when major roads were built through the city.
