Lake Neatahwanta is a beautiful lake located in Oswego County, New York, right next to the city of Fulton. It's a pretty big lake, covering about 750 acres. About half of the lake is within Fulton, and the other half is in the nearby town of Granby. The name "Neatahwanta" comes from the Iroquois language, and it means "little lake near the big lake."
Right now, you can't swim in Lake Neatahwanta or let your pets touch the water. This is because of some pollution and tiny living things (microbes) growing in it. But don't worry! The lake is being cleaned up. Workers are busy removing mud and other things from the bottom. This process is called dredging. The goal is to make the lake safe and fun for everyone to use again. It is expected to be fully clean in about two years.
Fishing in Lake Neatahwanta
Lake Neatahwanta is a great spot for fishing! Many different kinds of fish live here. You might catch a black crappie or a colorful pumpkinseed sunfish. Other fish found in the lake include the unique bowfin, the popular largemouth bass, and the speedy northern pike.
If you're lucky, you could even reel in a tiger muskie. There are also white perch, black bullhead, bluegill, striped bass, and yellow perch.
Boat Access for Anglers
If you want to bring a boat, there's a special place to launch it. The city owns a boat ramp on the northwest side of the lake. It's located off Phillips Street, near a campground. There is a small fee to use this boat access. It has a hard surface, making it easy to get your boat into the water.
