Lake Quinault is a beautiful lake found on the Olympic Peninsula in western Washington state. It sits in a valley carved by ancient glaciers, near the Quinault River. This lake is located at the southern edge of Olympic National Park in the northwestern United States. A very special thing about Lake Quinault is that it's right inside the Quinault Rain Forest, which is a unique type of forest.

The Quinault Indian Nation owns Lake Quinault. You can easily get to the area by using U.S. Route 101.

Exploring Lake Quinault

There are many fun things to do around Lake Quinault. You can go fishing, but you will need a special permit from the Quinault Nation. Driving around the lake is also popular. A full loop around the lake is longer than 30 miles (48 km).

Hiking Adventures

The southern side of the lake has many short hiking trails. The U.S. Forest Service takes care of these trails. They are perfect for people who enjoy a casual day hike.

The historic Lake Quinault Lodge is on the southern side of the lake. The Rain Forest Resort Village is also there. This area is part of the Olympic National Forest.

Famous Trails

The Quinault Loop Trail is on the south side of the lake. Nearby, you'll find the Quinault Rain Forest Interpretive Trail. This trail connects campgrounds, other trails, and the lodge. Both trails offer amazing views of the temperate rainforest. In 1979, each of these trails was named a National Recreation Trail.

The north side of the lake has mostly private homes. You can also find some small resorts there. These are located within Olympic National Park.

Weather at Lake Quinault

Lake Quinault gets a lot of rain every year. On average, it receives about 332.92 centimeters (131.07 inches) of rain. This heavy rainfall helps the rainforest grow and thrive.
