Lake Washington is the biggest lake in Brevard County, Florida. It covers about 4,362 acres (17.65 km2) of land. People think the lake might have been named after Colonel Henry Washington. He was a U.S. Deputy Surveyor who mapped the area in 1844.

About Lake Washington
Lake Washington is the 41st largest lake in the state of Florida. It is about 4 by 1 mile (6.4 by 1.6 km) long and wide. The lake is also about 10 to 15 feet (3.0 to 4.6 m) deep.
A Source of Fresh Water
This important lake is right next to the city of Melbourne. It is the main source of fresh water for Melbourne and nearby areas. Lake Washington provides two-thirds of the water for Melbourne's 150,000 customers.
The John A. Buckley Surface Water Treatment Plant is located close to the lake. This plant is owned by the City of Melbourne. It helps provide clean drinking water to Melbourne and other cities. The main pipe that carries this water is 36 inches (910 mm) wide.
Lake Washington is also part of the larger St. Johns River system. Another nearby lake, Lake Winder, is further downstream in this river system.

Lake Washington Park
At the end of Lake Washington Road, you will find Lake Washington Park. This park is a great place for boating. It also has a fun playground for kids. You can even find pavilions there, which are perfect for parties and gatherings.
