Lakeland County was a special type of local government area in northern Alberta, Canada. It was called a municipal district. This area existed for just over nine years, from 1998 to 2007.
How Lakeland County Began and Ended
Lakeland County was officially created on July 1, 1998. It was formed from parts of another area called the Municipal District of Bonnyville No. 87. These lands included a section of the Cold Lake Air Weapons Range in Alberta.
Later, on May 1, 2002, a small community named Plamondon joined Lakeland County. Plamondon had been a village, but it decided to become part of the larger county.
Just over five years after that, on August 1, 2007, Lakeland County joined together with the Town of Lac La Biche. When they combined, they formed a brand new, larger area. This new area is known today as Lac La Biche County.
