Lamar is a small town located in Darlington County, South Carolina, in the United States. In 2020, about 862 people lived there. Lamar is part of the larger Florence, SC Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History of Lamar
In March 2019, the mayor of Lamar at the time, Darnell Byrd McPherson, called the police to her home. She reported that her car and her husband's car had been sprayed with a yellow substance. After looking into it, the police found out that the substance was just pollen. The current mayor of Lamar is James Howell.
Geography of Lamar
Lamar is found in the southwestern part of Darlington County. Its exact location is 34°10′13″N 80°3′45″W / 34.17028°N 80.06250°W. U.S. Route 401 goes through the town. This road leads northeast about 14 miles (23 km) to Darlington, which is the main town of the county. It also leads southwest about 24 miles (39 km) to Sumter. You can also reach Lamar from Interstate 20 by taking Exit 131, which is about 3 miles (5 km) northeast on US 401.
The United States Census Bureau says that Lamar covers a total area of about 1.2 square miles (3.0 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
