Darlington County is famous for the Darlington Raceway. This is a big race track that hosts the yearly NASCAR Southern 500 race. It is also home to Coker College in Hartsville. The county was officially named in March 1785.

Darlington County was created in 1785. No one knows for sure how it got its name. It might have been named after a town called Darlington, England. The town of Darlington is the county seat. Hartsville is the largest community in the county.
