Lara Saint Paul at the Sanremo Music Festival

Lara Saint Paul first performed in public in 1962. This was at the Sanremo Music Festival in Italy. She used the name 'Tanya' and sang a song called "I colori della felicità".

Later, she changed her stage name to Lara Saint Paul. She performed again at Sanremo in 1966. In 1967, she was a finalist at another festival, the Festival della Canzone Napoletana.

Her biggest success at Sanremo came in 1968. She sang "Mi va di cantare" with the famous musician Louis Armstrong. They also performed with Lionel Hampton. She returned to Sanremo in 1972 and 1973. She was a finalist three times in total. In 1988, Lara Saint Paul helped produce the Sanremo Music Festival.

Working with Music Stars

Lara Saint Paul worked with many famous people in music. In 1973, American producer Quincy Jones helped her with two songs. These songs were "Non preoccuparti" and "Adesso ricomincerei". Italian musicians played on these songs.

That same year, she sang an Italian version of the popular song "Killing Me Softly with His Song". Her version was called "Mi fa morir cantando".

Lara Saint Paul performed with many music legends. These included Ray Charles, Lionel Hampton, Louis Armstrong, Roberta Flack, Frank Sinatra, and Stevie Wonder.

Her album Saffo Music came out in 1977. It was recorded in Los Angeles. The famous Pointer Sisters sang backup vocals on this album. Guitarist Ray Parker Jr. also played on it.

Her music was popular in many countries. People in Argentina, Brazil, and Japan loved her songs. She also released successful albums in Eastern Europe. She owned her own record labels with her husband.

Bringing Aerobics to Italy

In 1982, Lara Saint Paul helped bring the aerobics fitness craze to Italy. She worked with actress and fitness star Jane Fonda. They created a video, a book, and a music album called Aerobic Dance. There was also a single song called "A A AA Aerobica".

This exercise program was very popular. It became a huge hit in Italy. The Aerobic Dance album even won a Gold Record for its sales. Lara Saint Paul also created a clothing line and fitness clubs. These clubs were called "The Aerobic Center".

Lara Saint Paul on Television

Lara Saint Paul appeared in many TV shows across Europe. She started with the show Quelli Della Domenica in 1968. In 1970, she was on the TV show Canzonissima. This show brought Italian film and music stars together.

In 1992, she had a big TV special called Lara Superspecial. It was shown all over Europe and in 19 countries. Famous guests included Frank Sinatra, Liza Minnelli, Harry Belafonte, and Luciano Pavarotti. This show was very successful.

Later, she helped make a TV documentary about her friend, opera singer Luciano Pavarotti. It was called Pavarotti: The Best is Yet to Come. Lara was the interviewer for this film.

She also appeared on Italian TV shows about Frank Sinatra. Sinatra and his wife were personal friends of Lara Saint Paul. Her husband helped organize Sinatra's return to Italy in the 1980s. In 2005, Lara sang Sinatra duets on a TV show. She also appeared on other Italian TV programs in 2007 and 2008.

In June 2008, Lara performed live in Milan. This concert was for a charity event. It helped a group that works for children's surgery in developing countries.

The Viva Hollywood Awards Show

Lara Saint Paul helped create and present an Italian awards show called Viva Hollywood. This show started in 1988. Every year, it brought Hollywood stars to Italy. They received an award for their great work.

The show was very popular on Italian TV. Famous guests like Bette Davis received the first award. The stars stayed at a fancy hotel. They received a special bronze statue. Some guests, like Kirk Douglas, even met Pope John Paul II at the Vatican. Lara Saint Paul helped arrange these special meetings.

Lara Saint Paul passed away on May 8, 2018. She was 73 years old.
