Lascelles Brown, born on October 12, 1974, in May Pen, Jamaica, is a very talented bobsledder. He made history by becoming the first athlete born in Jamaica to win a medal at the Winter Olympics! He has competed for three different countries during his exciting career, which started in 1999.

Lascelles Brown's Bobsleigh Journey
Early Career and Olympic Dreams
Lascelles Brown began his bobsleigh journey with the Jamaica national bobsled team. He was a member of the team from 1999 to 2004. In 2002, he competed at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. He was the brakeman for Winston Watt in the two-man event. During those games, the Jamaican duo even set a new track push record!
After the Olympics, Lascelles continued training for bobsleigh. He trained at Calgary's Canada Olympic Park bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track in Canada. While there, he met his wife, Kara, who is Canadian. They are now married and have three daughters and a son.
Competing for Canada
Lascelles wanted to compete for Canada. He applied for Canadian citizenship on July 28, 2005. He received his citizenship just before the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. This special approval allowed him to compete for Canada at the games.
He became a brakeman for Canadian pilot Lyndon Rush. They competed together in both the two-man and four-man bobsleigh events. Lascelles is known as one of the best brakemen in the world. A bobsleigh coach, Gerd Grimme, said he was one of the top three brakemen globally.
Olympic and World Championship Medals
Lascelles Brown has won several important medals throughout his career.
- At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, he and pilot Pierre Lueders won a silver medal in the two-man event. This was a huge achievement!
- In the 2010 Winter Olympics held in Vancouver, Canada, Lascelles won a bronze medal. He was part of the four-man team with Lyndon Rush, Chris Le Bihan, and David Bissett. They competed on their home track at the Whistler Sliding Centre.
Lascelles also has a full set of medals from the FIBT World Championships:
- A gold medal in the two-man event in 2005.
- A silver medal in the four-man event in 2007.
- A bronze medal in the four-man event in 2005.
Competing for Monaco
In 2010, Lascelles Brown started competing for Monaco. He teamed up with Monégasque pilot Patrice Servelle. However, he later stopped representing Monaco. In 2012, he returned to compete for Canada once again.
