Lascelles Brown was born on October 12, 1974, in May Pen, Jamaica. He is a bobsledder who has competed for three different countries during his career, which started in 1999. Lascelles Brown is famous for being the first athlete born in Jamaica to win a medal at the Winter Olympics.

He has competed in three Winter Olympics events. He is known as a very strong "brakeman" in bobsledding. A brakeman is the person who sits at the back of the bobsled and helps to slow it down after the race.

Early Career and Jamaican Team

Lascelles Brown was part of the Jamaica national bobsled team from 1999 to 2004. He competed at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, USA. There, he was the brakeman for Winston Watt. Together, they set a new record for the fastest push start on the track during those games.

Brown continued to train for bobsledding in Calgary, Canada. He trained at the Canada Olympic Park bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track. While there, he met and married his wife, Kara, who is Canadian. They have three daughters and a son together.

Competing for Canada

Lascelles Brown wanted to compete for Canada. He applied to become a Canadian citizen on July 28, 2005. He was granted citizenship very quickly, just before the 2006 Winter Olympics. This allowed him to compete for Canada at the games in Turin, Italy.

At the 2006 Olympics, Brown won a silver medal in the two-man bobsled event. He competed with Pierre Lueders, who was a very successful bobsled pilot. Later, Brown started competing with Lyndon Rush.

Olympic Medals and World Championships

Brown competed at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. He and his teammates, Lyndon Rush, Chris Le Bihan, and David Bissett, won a bronze medal in the four-man bobsled event. This was a special moment, as it was on their home track at the Whistler Sliding Centre.

Lascelles Brown has also won many medals at the FIBT World Championships. These are major international competitions for bobsledding.

Top Brakeman in the World

Gerd Grimme, a coach for Bobsleigh Canada, has said that Lascelles Brown is one of the top three brakemen in the world. He is considered to be among the best, alongside Beat Hefti from Switzerland and Kevin Kuske from Germany.

Competing for Monaco and Return to Canada

At the start of the 2010 season, Lascelles Brown briefly competed for Monaco. He was partnered with Patrice Servelle from Monaco. However, he stopped representing Monaco and returned to compete for Canada in 2012. He has continued to be a strong competitor for Canada.
