Heather Laurie Holden (born December 17, 1969) is an American-Canadian actress and producer. She is also a model and works to protect human rights.
Laurie is famous for playing Marita Covarrubias in The X-Files (1996–2002). She also played Andrea Harrison in AMC's The Walking Dead (2010–2013, 2020–2022). Another well-known role was Amanda Dumfries in The Mist (2007).
She has also appeared as Adele Stanton in The Majestic (2001) and Cybil Bennett in Silent Hill (2006). You might also know her as Olivia Murray in The Shield (2008) or Renee in The Americans (2017–2018). More recently, she played the Crimson Countess in Vought News Network: Seven on 7 with Cameron Coleman (2021) and The Boys (2022).

Early Life and Education
Laurie Holden was born in Los Angeles, California. She grew up partly in Los Angeles and partly in Toronto, Canada. She has citizenship in both the United States and Canada. Her parents, Glenn Corbett and Adrienne Ellis, were actors. After they divorced, her mother married director Michael Anderson.
Laurie got her first movie role when she was a young child. She was visiting her stepfather on the set of The Martian Chronicles. The child actress who was supposed to play Rock Hudson's daughter didn't show up. So, Laurie stepped in and played the part!
As a teenager, she won a modeling contest called Look of the Year in Toronto. She also had a small role as a babysitter in her stepfather's movie, Separate Vacations (1986).
After finishing high school at the Bishop Strachan School, Laurie went to McGill University. There, she studied economics and political science. Later, she moved to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She earned a degree in theater and film in 1993. At UCLA, she was part of the National Honor Society and won the Natalie Wood Acting Award. Laurie then went on to get a master's degree in human rights from Columbia University.
Acting Career Highlights
Early in her career, Laurie Holden worked with many famous actors. She starred with Burt Reynolds in Physical Evidence (1989). She also appeared with Vanessa Redgrave in Young Catherine (1991). She worked with William Shatner in the TV movie TekWar: TekLab (1994).
She also played Mabel Dunham in the TV movie The Pathfinder (1996). On stage, she performed in plays like Time and the Conways and The Winter's Tale.
Laurie became well-known for her role as Marita Covarrubias in the sci-fi series The X-Files. She played a mysterious government worker who helped Special Agent Fox Mulder. This role lasted from 1996 to 2002. She also had a role in The Magnificent Seven (1998–2000).
One of Laurie's most famous movie roles was in The Majestic (2001). She starred opposite Jim Carrey as his long-lost love. Critics praised her performance in this film. She also played Cybil Bennett in the horror movie Silent Hill (2006). Another big role was Amanda Dumfries in The Mist (2007).

Laurie Holden cares a lot about human rights. She supports women's rights and works for racial justice.
She is a founding board member of the Canadian Somaly Mam Foundation. This group works to stop human trafficking, which is like modern-day slavery. She is also on the advisory board for the Somaly Mam Foundation in the U.S.
