Heather Laurie Holden (born December 17, 1969) is an American-Canadian actress, producer, and human rights activist. A human rights activist is someone who works to make sure everyone is treated fairly and their rights are protected.
She is famous for playing Marita Covarrubias in the science-fiction show The X-Files (1996–2002). Many people also know her as Andrea Harrison in the popular TV series The Walking Dead (2010–2013). She also played Amanda Dumfries in the horror movie The Mist (2007).
Some of her other well-known roles include Adele Stanton in The Majestic (2001), Cybil Bennett in the movie Silent Hill (2006), and the Crimson Countess in the superhero show The Boys (2022).

Early Life and Education
Laurie Holden was born in Los Angeles but grew up in Toronto, Canada. Because of this, she has dual citizenship, meaning she is a citizen of both the United States and Canada.
For college, she first went to McGill University to study economics and political science. Later, she moved to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where she earned a degree in theater and film in 1993. At UCLA, she was a member of the National Honor Society for her excellent grades. She also received the Natalie Wood Acting Award.
After becoming an actress, she went back to school to get a master's degree in human rights from Columbia University.
Acting Career
Holden began her acting career with roles in movies and TV shows. She appeared in shows like Murder, She Wrote and Highlander: The Series.
Breakthrough Roles
Her first big break came when she joined the popular science-fiction series The X-Files. From 1996 to 2002, she played Marita Covarrubias, a mysterious government worker who helps Agent Fox Mulder.
She also had a main role in the TV series The Magnificent Seven from 1998 to 2000, where she played Mary Travis.
Success in Movies
In 2001, Holden starred with Jim Carrey in the movie The Majestic. She played Adele Stanton, the long-lost love of Carrey's character, and critics praised her performance.
She continued to star in major films. In 2006, she played police officer Cybil Bennett in Silent Hill, a movie based on a famous video game. The next year, she was in another horror film, The Mist, as Amanda Dumfries.
The Walking Dead and Beyond
From 2010 to 2013, Holden played one of her most famous roles, Andrea Harrison, in the AMC hit show The Walking Dead. Andrea is a strong survivor in a world taken over by zombies. For this role, Holden won a Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress.
After The Walking Dead, she appeared in the comedy movie Dumb and Dumber To (2014) as the villain, Adele Pinchelow. She also had roles in TV shows like Major Crimes and The Americans.
In 2022, she joined the cast of the superhero show The Boys as the Crimson Countess. She even sang two songs for the show, "America's Son" and "Chimps Don't Cry".
Charity and Human Rights Work
Holden is passionate about helping others. She supports women's rights and works to end unfair treatment of people. She is very active in the fight against human trafficking, which is when people are illegally forced into labor or other services against their will.
She is a founding member of the Canadian Somaly Mam Foundation, an organization that fights human trafficking. In 2014, she also worked with a group called Operation Underground Railroad. This group helps police find and rescue children from traffickers. Holden was part of a mission in Cartagena, Colombia, that helped rescue young girls and arrest criminals.
