Lava Records (Lava Music, LLC) is an American record label. A record label is a company that helps musicians record and sell their music. Lava Records is owned by Jason Flom, who works with Universal Music Group.

The Story of Lava Records

In 1995, Jason Flom started Lava Records. He partnered with Atlantic Records to do this. For the next ten years, he found many talented artists. These artists sold over 100 million records around the world. Some of these popular artists included Matchbox 20, Kid Rock, The Corrs, Simple Plan, The Blue Man Group, Edwin McCain, Sugar Ray, and Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

In 2004, Flom sold Lava Records to Atlantic Records Group. He then became the main leader of Atlantic Records Group. In this job, he helped the label become very successful again. He also continued to sign new big artists. One of these was Hayley Williams' band, Paramore.

After many successful years at Atlantic and Lava, Flom moved to Virgin Records in 2005. He became their top leader. In 2007, he brought Virgin Records and Capitol Records together. This created the Capitol Music Group. Flom was named the leader of this new group. During his time there, he helped release successful music from stars like Lenny Kravitz, Coldplay, and Rolling Stones. He also helped eleven new artists become very popular. These included Jared Leto’s band Thirty Seconds to Mars. In 2007, he signed Katy Perry. He personally helped her create her first international hit album, One of the Boys.

In 2008, Flom left Capitol Music Group. He decided to start Lava Records again. This time, he partnered with Republic Records, which is part of Universal Music Group. He signed Jessie J to the label. Her songs "Do It Like a Dude" and "Price Tag" (with B.o.B) became number one hits in the UK and 17 other countries in 2011. Her first album, Who You Are, sold over three million copies worldwide.

In 2013, Flom discovered Lorde. She was an unknown artist from New Zealand at the time. Lava Records released her first hit song, "Royals." This song was number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for eight weeks. It became the biggest alternative radio hit by a female artist ever. Lorde later won two Grammy Awards for "Royals," including Song of the Year.

After successful rock releases from Black Veil Brides and Andy Black, Flom signed the rock band Greta Van Fleet in 2017. They became very popular, with many number one rock hits and over 1 million albums sold. They also toured a lot. Famous musicians like Robert Plant and Elton John have praised the band. Greta Van Fleet received four nominations at the 2018 Grammy Awards. They won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album for their Lava debut album, From the Fires.

Flom also started Lava Publishing in 2014. This company works with writers like Evan Konrad, Maty Noyes, and all four members of Greta Van Fleet. Flom also created a podcast company called Lava for Good.
