Lawrence is a town located in St. Lawrence County, New York, United States. In 2020, about 1,715 people lived here. The town is named after William Lawrence, who owned a lot of land in the area a long time ago.
The Town of Lawrence is on the eastern edge of St. Lawrence County. It is located east of the village of Potsdam.

History of Lawrence
People started settling in the Lawrence area shortly after the year 1800. However, during the War of 1812, many families left. They moved to states like Vermont and New Hampshire.
Only five families stayed in Lawrence during that time. They often ate venison (deer meat) to survive. It was hard to farm the land back then. In 1827, a new state road was built through the region. This road helped more people move to Lawrence.
The town of Lawrence was officially formed in 1828. It was created from parts of two other towns: Brasher and Hopkinton.
Geography of Lawrence
Lawrence covers a total area of about 47.7 square miles (123.5 square kilometers). Almost all of this area is land. Only a tiny part, about 0.04 square miles (0.1 square kilometers), is water.
The eastern border of the town is also the border of Franklin County.
Two important rivers flow through Lawrence. The Deer River starts in the southeast and flows towards the northwest. The east branch of the St. Regis River crosses the southern part of the town.
Several main roads pass through Lawrence. U.S. Route 11 and New York State Route 11C run east and west. New York State Route 11B goes through the southeastern corner of the town.

- G. Ledyard Stebbins (1906–2000) was a famous botanist and geneticist. He studied plants and how living things change over time. He was born in Lawrence.

- Coteys Corner – This is a small village, called a hamlet. It is where Route US-11 and Route NY-11C meet. It's west of Lawrenceville.
- Deer River – This is a stream that flows through the northeastern part of the town.
- Fort Jackson – Another hamlet, located near the St. Regis River. Most of this community is actually in the nearby Town of Hopkinton.
- Laverys Corners – You can find this spot west of Lawrenceville. It's at the meeting point of County Road 54 and County Road 55.
- Lawrenceville – This is a hamlet in the eastern part of the town. It's near where Route US-11 meets County Roads 54 and 55, close to the Deer River.
- McEwens Corners – A hamlet located west of Lawrenceville on Route 54.
- Nicholville – This hamlet is by the St. Regis River. It's where NY-11B and County Road 55 meet in the southern part of the town. A small part of Nicholville is also in the Town of Hopkinton. This settlement was once called "Sodom."
- North Lawrence – A hamlet on NY-11C and County Road 55. It's close to the northern border of the town. People first settled here around 1827.
- Taylors Corners – This hamlet is east of Lawrenceville. It's very close to the eastern border of the town.
- Wagstaff Corners – A hamlet located where County Roads 51 and 54 meet. It's west of Lawrenceville.
