Lego Legends of Chima was a special Lego toy theme. It came out in 2013 and stopped being made in 2015. The story takes place in a magical land called "Chima." In Chima, different animal tribes live, and they can talk and act like people.

These tribes often fight each other. They battle to get a special substance called "CHI." CHI comes in glowing crystal orbs and has amazing magical powers. Animals can wear CHI Orbs or use them to power their weapons and vehicles.

This Lego theme also led to a 3D animated TV show called Legends of Chima. There were also several video games and a magazine in the UK. The magazine even came with a free Lego toy!

Lego Chima is a bit like an older Lego theme called Lego Ninjago. Ninjago also had a 3D animated TV show and other cool adaptations. It seems that Chima is one of many different worlds, just like the world of Ninjago.

What is Chima?

Chima is a magical realm that floats high above a much bigger, unknown world. For a long time, animal tribes lived peacefully in Chima. But then, a big conflict started, leading to a war between 19 different animal tribes.

The Animal Tribes of Chima

Here are some of the main animal tribes you'll find in Chima:

There are also special groups of tribes:

All these tribes fight fiercely over CHI. CHI is a powerful natural resource. It can be used to create wonderful things or cause great destruction.

The Story of Chima

Chima was once a beautiful, peaceful place. But then, it became a battlefield for the animal tribes. Friends turned into enemies, all fighting for control of CHI. CHI is a powerful element that gives life, but it can also be very dangerous if used wrongly. Only a few brave heroes in Chima truly understood CHI. They knew that misusing it could destroy their home. Their adventures, and the stories of those who wanted to harm Chima, became the legends.

For a thousand years, the animal tribes lived in peace. They worked and played together. But then, the Chima conflicts began.

How the Conflict Started

Laval (a Lion) and Cragger (a Crocodile) were best friends. One day, Cragger wanted to visit the Sacred Pool of CHI. Laval took him there. Cragger didn't listen to Laval's warnings and took a CHI orb. He felt a huge burst of power and started acting wildly.

Cragger's parents, King Crominus and Crunket, came to get him. This led to a big argument with the Lions. The next day, Cragger tried to bring Worriz (a Wolf) to the temple to feel the CHI power too. But Laval and other Lions stopped them. Cragger accidentally started a war with the Lions, and his parents disappeared into a deep gorge.

Laval's father, Lagravis, then told him an old story. The Lions were the first to drink from the Ancient Pool of CHI. Because of this, they became its protectors. They always shared CHI fairly with everyone. Even though the Crocodiles sometimes disagreed with the Lions, they were smart enough to avoid a full war. All the animals in Chima needed CHI to power their vehicles, gear, and even themselves.

The War Begins

With his parents gone, Cragger became the Crocodile Prince. He knew the Lions were innocent, but his sister, Crooler, used her powers to make him declare war. A full-scale war broke out between the Crocodiles and the Lions. The Ravens and Wolves joined the Crocodiles. The Eagles and Gorillas stayed with the Lions. As the fighting spread, the future of Chima was in danger.

After many battles, a mysterious black cloud appeared. It made Mount Cavora, the source of all CHI, dry up. There was one big final battle. Laval pretended to be defeated, and the villains seemed to be winning. They had even tricked the Rhinos, while the Bears slept through the whole thing!

But then, Laval returned with the legendary Crocodile Legend Beast and Cragger's mother, Crunket. Cragger was so happy to see his mother that he ended the war. However, Crunket warned them about new, dark tribes who wanted to steal all their CHI. The real adventure had just begun!

The heroes then traveled to the Outlands to fight these dark tribes. There, they met Lavertus, a Lion who had been exiled. Together, they fought bravely.

After defeating the dark tribes, the Scorpions threw CHI into the Gorge of Eternal Depth. This woke up the long-frozen Ice Hunter tribes. With the power of CHI, the Ice Hunters became very greedy and attacked the main tribes of Chima.

Video Games of Chima

In 2013, three video games based on Chima were released:

  • Legends of Chima: Speedorz: This was a racing game available on the Lego website and for iOS devices. You raced to collect Lego studs and battle other animals.
  • Lego Legends of Chima: Laval's Journey: This adventure game came out for PlayStation Vita, Nintendo 3DS, and Nintendo DS.
  • Lego Legends of Chima Online: This was a MMORPG (a big online game where many players play together) for computers. You could build your own outpost, explore Chima, complete quests, and customize your weapons. It was released in 2013 but closed down in 2015.

Chima characters also appeared in the 2015 game Lego Dimensions. Laval, Eris, and Cragger were all playable characters in that game!

Chima Crossovers

Sometimes, characters or places from Chima appear in other Lego stories!

Lego Ninjago

  • In a Lego Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu episode called "Curseworld Part II," the world of Chima is shown as one of many different realms. Lloyd and Morro teleported there using a special crystal, surprising the animals, before quickly leaving. Laval was left very surprised!
  • In another Lego Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu episode, "The Kaiju Protocol," the Beavers from Chima appeared. This happened when Master Wu and P.I.X.A.L. opened a portal to try and reach the Ninja.

Nexo Knights

  • In an episode of Nexo Knights, the Lion Temple from Legends of Chima appeared. It was shown as a visual option in the training room called "Ye Old Royal RV."
