Lendl Mark Platter Simmons was born on January 25, 1985. He is a cricketer from Trinidad and Tobago. He played for the West Indies cricket team on the international stage.
Lendl is a right-handed batsman. He sometimes bowls right-arm medium pace. He can also play as a part-time wicket-keeper. His uncle, Phil Simmons, was also a famous West Indian Test cricketer. Lendl Simmons announced his retirement from international cricket in July 2022. He was part of the West Indies team that won the 2012 T20 World Cup and the 2016 T20 World Cup.

Lendl Simmons' Early Cricket Journey
Lendl Simmons was a very good junior cricketer. He played in two Under-19 World Cups. These were in 2002 in New Zealand and 2004 in Bangladesh. He represented the West Indies U-19s.
Two years later, he played his first ODI match. This was against Pakistan on December 7, 2006. The game took place in Faisalabad.
Simmons is known for scoring many runs in matches. He has made three double-centuries in first-class cricket. However, he sometimes struggled with being consistent. His best score was 282 runs. This happened in a first-class match against an England XI in January 2009. This great performance led to his first Test match.
He made his Test debut in the last match of that tour. The West Indies secured a draw in Trinidad. This helped them win the series. Simmons scored 24 and 8 runs in that match. He was also part of the team for the next tour to England. But he did not play any more Test matches after that.
Playing in T20 Leagues Around the World
Lendl Simmons has played for many different teams. These teams are part of Twenty20 (T20) cricket leagues. These leagues are popular all over the world.
Playing for Mumbai Indians in the IPL
In April 2014, Simmons joined the Mumbai Indians team. This team plays in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He joined to help the team, as they had not won any of their first four matches.
On May 22, 2014, Simmons scored his first IPL century. A century means scoring 100 runs or more. This helped his team win against Kings XI Punjab.
Simmons played for Mumbai Indians in the 2014 and 2015 IPL seasons. In 2015, he opened the batting with Parthiv Patel. They became a very strong opening pair. They helped Mumbai Indians win the IPL 8 title. This was the team's second IPL championship.
Simmons did not play much in the first half of the 2017 season. But he got a chance to open the batting later. Mumbai Indians went on to win the 2017 season. This was their third IPL win. Since 2018, Simmons has not been picked by any team in the IPL auctions.
Playing in the Pakistan Super League
In late 2015, Lendl Simmons was chosen to play for the Karachi Kings. This was for the first season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). He also played for Karachi Kings in the second and third seasons. In 2019, he was picked by Lahore Qalandars for the 2020 PSL season.
Other Cricket Leagues Simmons Played In
On June 3, 2018, Simmons was chosen to play for the Winnipeg Hawks. This was for the first Global T20 Canada tournament. He scored the most runs in that tournament. He made 321 runs in eight matches.
In June 2019, he played for the Brampton Wolves in the same tournament. In July 2020, he joined the Trinbago Knight Riders team. This was for the 2020 Caribbean Premier League.
In 2023, he played for the Bhilwara Kings. This team is part of the Legends League cricket. Before that, he also played for the Gujarat Giants.
Lendl Simmons' International Cricket Career
Simmons played his first Test match against England on March 6, 2009. His first ODI match was against Pakistan on December 7, 2006.
He has scored two centuries in ODI matches. A century is when a player scores 100 runs or more. His first century was 122 runs against Bangladesh. This happened at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. His second century was against Ireland during the 2015 Cricket World Cup. This match was played in Nelson, New Zealand. Ireland actually won that match by 4 wickets.
Even though he was good in ODI and T20I cricket, Simmons did not have as much success in Test cricket. His highest score in Test matches was 49 runs against Pakistan.
In March 2017, Simmons was chosen for the West Indies team. They played in a Twenty20 International (T20I) series against Pakistan. In September 2021, Simmons was also part of the West Indies team. This was for the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
