What Does This Frog Look Like?
The Vanzolini's Amazon frog is a medium-sized frog with a fairly strong body. Male frogs are usually about 28 to 35 millimeters long from their snout to their rear end. Female frogs are a bit larger, measuring about 32 to 35 millimeters.
Its skin is typically reddish-brown, with lighter colors on its sides. The back of the frog is smooth, but it might have a few small bumps. Its fingers might have small pads called disks, or they might not. However, its toes always end in slightly wider, rounded disks.
Interestingly, these frogs can look a bit different depending on where they live. Their color patterns, body shapes, and even their calls can vary from one place to another.
Where Does the Vanzolini's Amazon Frog Live?
This frog is quite common and lives in many places across the Amazon. It is active both during the day and at night. You can often find it hopping around on the forest floor. It also likes swampy areas within the forest.
Sometimes, it lives in forests that get flooded during certain seasons. It can also be found in more open areas. When it's time to lay eggs, the female frog chooses a spot close to water. This is where the baby frogs, called tadpoles, will grow and develop.
Challenges This Frog Faces
Even though the Vanzolini's Amazon frog is common, it faces some problems in certain areas. One big challenge is habitat loss. This means that the places where these frogs live are slowly disappearing. This can happen because forests are cut down or land is changed for other uses.
