Leslie Voltaire (born July 11, 1949) is an important Haitian politician and a skilled architect. He is currently serving as the president of the Transitional Presidential Council since October 2024. Before this, he worked in the governments of Jean-Bertrand Aristide and René Préval. He also ran for president in the 2010 election.

About Leslie Voltaire
Leslie Voltaire was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on July 11, 1949. He is very good at languages and can speak English, French, Spanish, and Haitian Creole.
His Education and Career
Voltaire went to school at Petit Séminaire Collège Saint-Martial in Port-au-Prince. He then studied at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, where he earned a degree in architecture. Later, he went to Cornell University in the United States. There, he received a master's degree in urban and regional planning. He was also a Fulbright scholar at Cornell, which is a special scholarship.
Leslie Voltaire became an expert architect and urban planner. He has more than 40 years of experience in these fields. He helped create many big projects. For example, he designed a plan for a low-cost housing complex in Port-au-Prince. He also worked as a helper in building a football academy. For 15 years, he taught architecture at the State University of Haiti.
His Political Journey
Leslie Voltaire became involved in politics in 1990. He was first appointed as a state councilor. One year later, President Jean-Bertrand Aristide named him the Minister of National Education and Minister of Sports.
In 1995, he became the chief of staff for President Aristide. He continued to work in the government under President René Préval. In 1996, he was appointed as an advisor for infrastructure. In 2001, he became the Minister of Haitians Living Abroad. He wrote a special law, known as the Voltaire law. This law helped improve economic rights for Haitians living in other countries. In 2009, Voltaire worked as a Special Envoy to the United Nations (UN) with former U.S. president Bill Clinton.
Helping Haiti and Running for President
In 2010, a very big earthquake hit Haiti. Leslie Voltaire played a key role in helping to rebuild the country. He also ran for president in the 2010–11 Haitian general election. He was part of the Ansanm Nou Fò party. He received 16,199 votes in that election. After the election, he continued to advise the Lavalas party. He later became a member of the executive board of the Montana Accord.
Current Role in Government
In 2024, Leslie Voltaire was chosen to be a member of the Transitional Presidential Council. This group temporarily acts as the head of state for Haiti. He started this role on April 25, 2024, as one of seven members. The leadership of this council rotates among its members. Leslie Voltaire became the president of the council on October 7, 2024. He took over from Edgard Leblanc Fils. His term as president is set to end on March 7, 2025. He took on this important role during a challenging time for the council.
