History of Liberty

Liberty was founded in 1869. It was first built about six miles southeast of a city called Independence, Kansas. The city got its name from the important idea of liberty, which means freedom.

In 1870, a railroad was built through the county. Because of this, Liberty moved to its current location. The first post office in Liberty opened in May 1870, helping people send and receive mail.
