Liberty is a city in the state of Texas, located in Liberty County. It is the main city, or "county seat," of Liberty County. In 2020, about 8,279 people lived there.
Liberty is one of the oldest cities in Texas. It was founded in 1831 next to the Trinity River. The city even has a special copy of the famous Liberty Bell from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Public Libraries

Liberty Municipal Airport
The Liberty Municipal Airport is about 6 miles (9.7 km) east of the city. It's a general aviation airport, meaning it's mostly for private planes. The airport has a runway that is 3,801 feet (1,159 meters) long. It also has fuel, a room for pilots, and new airplane hangars. They plan to make the runway longer soon.

Liberty offers public transportation through the Brazos Transit District. The city shares a bus route with the nearby city of Dayton, Texas.
Fun Things to Do
The Liberty Opry
The Park Theater first opened in 1938 as a movie house. Later, in 1993, it was bought and reopened as The Liberty Opry. This venue hosts live musical shows, similar to those in Branson, Missouri. It can seat 400 people. While it used to have weekly shows, performances now happen about twice a month.
Cultural Center
The Geraldine D. Humphreys Cultural Center is a large building that is 23,000 square feet (2,137 square meters). It houses the Liberty Municipal Library and the Humphreys-Burson Theatre. The theater has 153 seats. The center was renovated in 2010, adding new seating and more space.

Liberty has two local newspapers:
- The Liberty Vindicator – This paper has been serving Liberty and Liberty County since 1887.
