About the Ferry Service

The Liberty Landing Ferry runs on weekdays. It does not operate on major holidays. Since 2020, a ferry leaves every hour. Before 2020, ferries left every half hour.
Weekend service used to be available in the summer until 2019. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, weekend service was paused for a few years. It has now started again.
Most transfers to other transportation systems cost extra. This is because each system runs on its own. A one-way trip from Manhattan to New Jersey costs $10. A trip between the two New Jersey docks (Warren Street and Liberty Landing) costs $2. There are discounts for older people and children. You can also buy passes for ten trips or a whole month. The price for trips between states went up from $7 to $10 in January 2023. This was the first price change since at least 2010.
Ferry Route and Stops
The ferry ride usually takes about 15 minutes. It travels through the Morris Canal Basin and the Hudson River.
- First, the ferry leaves the Liberty Landing Marina.
- It then crosses the Morris Canal to the Warren Street dock. This short trip is about 500 feet (150 meters).
- After that, the ferry leaves the Morris Canal Basin. It goes into the Hudson River.
- It crosses the Hudson River at its southern end. This is just before the river flows into Upper New York Bay.
- As it crosses, you can see great views. You might spot the Central Railroad of New Jersey Terminal in Liberty State Park. You can also see Downtown Jersey City and the skylines of Midtown and Downtown Manhattan.
- Finally, the ferry arrives at the Battery Park City Ferry Terminal. It usually uses slip 2. This slip is also used by NYC Ferry and NY Waterway services.
- The ferry then makes the same trip in reverse. It stops at Warren Street again.
- The trip ends back at the Liberty Landing Marina. The boat waits there for 30 minutes before starting its next roundtrip.

The Ferry Boats
The Liberty Landing Ferry uses two special boats called catamarans. Catamarans are boats with two hulls (bottom parts).
- The first boat is the Little Lady. It is 46 feet (14 meters) long. It was built in 1999.
- The second boat is the Little Lady II. It is 64.9 feet (19.8 meters) long. It was built in 2007.
Both boats were made by Sea Taxi Catamarans. Usually, only the Little Lady II is used for regular service. Both ferries have top decks where passengers can sit on benches.
