The Liberty Landing Ferry is a special boat service. It helps people travel between Jersey City, New Jersey, and Battery Park City in Manhattan, New York City. This ferry is officially called the Liberty Landing City Ferry. It's like a water taxi that takes people to work or for fun trips across the water.
The ferry starts at the Liberty Landing Marina in Jersey City. It then crosses the Hudson River to reach the Battery Park City Ferry Terminal in Manhattan. This ferry is one of many boats that operate in the busy Port of New York and New Jersey.
What the Ferry Does

The Liberty Landing Ferry runs every weekday, all year long. It does not run on major holidays. Since 2020, a ferry leaves every hour. Before that, ferries left every half hour.
In the past, there was also weekend service during the summer. However, this stopped in 2019 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is not yet known if summer weekend service will start again.
A one-way ticket from Manhattan to Jersey City costs $10. If you travel between the two docks in Jersey City (Warren Street and Liberty Landing), it costs $2. There are special prices for kids and older people. You can also buy passes for 10 trips or a whole month.
The Ferry's Path
The ferry ride usually takes about 15 minutes. It travels through the Morris Canal Basin and then into the Hudson River.
The journey starts at the Liberty Landing Marina. The ferry then makes a short trip across the Morris Canal to the Warren Street dock. After that, it heads out into the Hudson River.
It crosses the river near where it meets Upper New York Bay. As you cross, you can see amazing views. You'll see Liberty State Park, Downtown Jersey City, and the tall buildings of Midtown Manhattan and Lower Manhattan.
The ferry then arrives at the Battery Park City Ferry Terminal in Manhattan. After dropping off passengers, the ferry makes the same trip in reverse. It stops at Warren Street again and then ends back at the Liberty Landing Marina. The boat waits there for 30 minutes before starting its next trip.
Ferry Docks
The Liberty Landing Ferry uses three main docks:
- Liberty Landing Marina: This dock is in Liberty State Park in Jersey City.
- Warren Street: This dock is at the foot of Warren Street in Liberty Harbor, also in Jersey City.
- Battery Park City Ferry Terminal: This dock is in Battery Park City, Manhattan, near Brookfield Place.
The Boats
The Liberty Landing Ferry uses two special boats called catamarans. A catamaran is a boat with two hulls (bottom parts) instead of one. This makes them very stable and fast.
- The Little Lady is 46 feet (about 14 meters) long. It was built in 1999.
- The Little Lady II is 64.9 feet (about 19.8 meters) long. It was built in 2007.
Usually, only the Little Lady II is used for regular service. Both ferries have an upper deck where you can sit and enjoy the views.
Who Owns the Ferry
The Liberty Landing Ferry is part of a company called Statue Cruises. This company also runs ferries to famous places like Ellis Island and Liberty Island (where the Statue of Liberty is). These ferries leave from Liberty State Park and Battery Park in Manhattan.
Other ferry companies also use the Battery Park City Ferry Terminal. These include NY Waterway and NYC Ferry. There are many different ferries and sightseeing boats in the Port of New York and New Jersey. Some of these include the Staten Island Ferry and Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises, which offers tours of the harbor.
