List of lieutenant governors of Iowa facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

A Lieutenant Governor is an important elected official in the U.S. state of Iowa. Think of them as a helper or a second-in-command to the Governor. The rules for what the Lieutenant Governor does are written in Iowa's state constitution. It says they have duties given to them by law and any tasks the Governor asks them to do. This means they work closely with the Governor to help run the state.

How the Lieutenant Governor is Chosen

Before 1990, the Governor and the Lieutenant Governor were elected separately. This meant people voted for them in different elections. But since 1990, things changed! Now, the Governor and Lieutenant Governor run for office together as a team. This is like how a president and vice president run together in national elections. When you vote for one, you're also voting for the other.
