Economy and Jobs

Lignite is located in an area known for farming. Farmers grow crops like rapeseed, also called canola, which you can see in the picture.
There has also been some oil drilling in the past. In 2010, a company from London started looking for potash near Lignite. Potash is a type of salt used in fertilizers. This was the first time in 30 years that a company got permission to drill for potash in North Dakota.
